SCHEDULES FOR 17-18

Many of you have met with a counselor to choose classes for next year. If you have not yet been able to do so, don't worry, I will be getting to you in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, take a look at the course catalog (found on the PTHS webpage) and read about some of your class choices for next year!

PSAT scores are in!

Sophomores,

Today and tomorrow copies of the PSAT student score report are being handed out during World History classes. If you are not taking World History this semester you can pick up your Score Report after 6th period Wednesday. Just come by the counseling center-- we will have your report waiting for you. If you have any questions about the score you received AFTER YOU HAVE READ THE ENTIRE REPORT, come on by the counseling center and leave me a note--I will be happy to meet with you about it.

HOBY Representative Chosen

The 2016-2017 Sophomore HOBY representative will be Shaun Naseiro. Congratulations Shaun! A special thanks to everyone who took an interest and applied. Your effort is appreciated!

HOBY State Leadership Seminar, June 2017

Sophomores, Are you looking for an opportunity to develop leadership skills, meet new people from around the state of Texas, represent Pine Tree High School and get out of town for a few days next summer?!?!?!

Each year PTHS selects one sophomore to attend a state leadership seminar in Denton, Texas the second week of June. HOBY empowers high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their homes, schools and communities. The selected student attends a three or four-day seminar to participate in hands-on leadership activities, meet leaders in the sate, and explore their personal leadership skills.

Still not convinced? Watch this video from last year's Pine Tree High School representative below:

Interested sophomores will need to complete and submit the online application above. One sophomore will be chosen from the applicant pool by November 18, 2016. An alternate will also be chosen from the applicant pool. So hurry up and get that application submitted!! I can't wait to see who goes next June!

See me in the counselor's office if you have any questions and good luck!

IMPORTANT!!!!

The date of the PSAT has changed! Sophomores (and juniors) will be giving the PSAT on Wednesday, November 2. Mark it down in your planners, put it in your phone etc!

PSAT information you need to know:

This fall sophomores will be taking the PSAT test. This is a 4-hour, timed test given to sophomores and juniors. This test is a good college-readiness indicator, and also gives you a "sneak-peak" at what the SAT test is like. The SAT test is taken by juniors and seniors around the United States. It is one of the tests that colleges look at when you apply. It's kind of a big deal.

FAQs about the PSAT:

When will PT administer the PSAT? Wednesday, October 19.

Where will the test be given? It will be on the high school campus. You will receive a note the day before telling you what room to report to that morning.

What should I bring? You should bring #2 pencils, an eraser, a calculator (the school does not provide them, so bring your own!!), a sweatshirt in case your room is cold.

Does the PSAT cost anything? Sophomores take the PSAT at no cost to them...it's free.

Do I have to take the PSAT? Yes, PTHS requires you to take this test.

Do I have to study for the PSAT? Studying for this test is not required, however, you will receive a booklet about the PSAT and it would be a good idea to look it over so that you know what to expect the day of the test.

Welcome back to school Sophomores!

I'm so glad that you are at PTHS this year! I will be using this site to keep in touch with you about the things you need to know this year. Please stay tuned in and keep up with our office...it's going to be a great year!
