English Village Family Newsletter
August 2022
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS:
Dear English Village Families and Community Members,
Hello, everyone! We hope that you are all having a safe and fun summer thus far. For those of you that have been part of our English Village family, welcome back! For those that are new to our learning community-Welcome, we are Jason Lewis-proud Principal and Rosa Bellone-proud Assistant Principal of English Village Elementary School. We look forward to seeing you all soon!
We are writing to welcome everyone to the 2022-2023 school year. These past couple of years were most definitely challenging and have taken a toll on everyone. Please know that school staff have been and will continue to work diligently over the summer to prepare our school for your children’s safe and healthy return. We are excited to welcome everyone as well about the possibilities this new school year brings for all!
Our goal is to continuously improve English Village and make it the best school it can be for all: students and their families, staff, and our community. We will focus on academic achievement and growth as well as SEL (Social Emotional Learning) growth and student attendance. We ask that you are our partners in your child’s education, growth, and development. This can be accomplished in many ways, i.e.-working with your child at home, engaging with your child’s teacher, volunteering, etc.
We maintain an “open door” policy and are more than happy to help you with any questions, concerns, and/or comments you have. We’d rather a parent/family member/community member inquire about something rather than letting it go unresolved. In fact, we are looking for more parent/family input and involvement. Please look for opportunities to share your voice to help improve our school for your children, our students.
It was a pleasure to have things mostly back to normal by the end of this past school year. We were able to have the following: Field Day, field trips, Moving Up ceremonies, class celebrations, etc. School felt whole again! The hope is that this will continue and progress!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for being a part of our learning community. We look forward to meeting you or seeing you again, and working together through these challenging times to create the best learning experience and partnership for your children. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Ps-Please join us at our Meet and Greets on Tuesday, September 6th at our school!
Grade 2 12-1 pm, Kindergarten 1-2 pm, Grade 1 2-3 pm
Sincerely,
Jason Lewis

SCHOOL UPDATES:
As we begin a new school year, we hope you will blaze new trails and seek new horizons.
We are so excited to welcome each and everyone one of our students back for the 22-23 school year and can not wait to see everyone on the first day of school.
Hello Parents:
In our ongoing efforts to enhance your children’s safety, we have decided to begin using the
PikMyKid Dismissal Application. Throughout the country, it has been proven to simplify
dismissal, reduce traffic congestion, and most importantly, improve overall safety.
The unique features of PikMyKid allow you, as parents, to easily change pick up modes, quickly
delegate to an alternate individual for pickup, change to an ‘After School’ program, and even
schedule for future pickup mode, pickup individual, and after school programs. This app allows
you to be in full control of your child’s dismissal and it gives us, the school, complete
information regarding dismissal and the ability to acknowledge every change and to instantly
check your child’s dismissal status should you have a question.
We are very excited about this addition and know you will be too. Check your emails over the
next few weeks for additional information and we will be on our way to a safer, quicker, and more efficient dismissal process. To Learn a little more on your own, please check out the following link that will show you a few of the PikMyKid features.
****NOTE: THE IMPLEMENTATION of PIKMYKID WILL NOT BEGIN UNTIL OCTOBER*****

Community Schools Corner
Do you have questions about what Community Schools looks like at English Village?
Parent's, Did you know that English Village is a community school?
A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities.

New State COVID Guidance
Last week, New York State (NYS) Governor Kathy Hochul announced COVID-related school reopening guidance. NYS will be following the CDC’s latest recommendations. An FAQ can be found here. Generally speaking, not much has changed from the end of the 2021-22 school year. We will not be conducting contact tracing. There are no masking or testing requirements for students or staff, but there will be opportunities for optional diagnostic testing for those who are symptomatic. While universal masking remains optional, we understand that families may decide to continue to mask while in school and we respect each family’s decision. Students and staff who test positive for COVID should stay home for five days from the onset of symptoms or until symptoms are resolving. If you have any questions about what is expected, please contact the school nurse. We are looking forward to the first “normal” school opening since 2019!
