7th Grade Expedition and Field Study
7th Grade Expedition: “What’s the Cost?”
On October 20th, the 7th grade house at MGM will be kicking off our expedition, What’s the Cost? with a field study to retail stores in Lexington and Harbison. In this expedition, students will explore why American companies choose to manufacture goods in other parts of the world, and whether or not this should impact our decisions as consumers. To kick off our learning, we want students to collect data at their local retail stores to learn about:
where clothing is manufactured
the cost of clothing
type of fabric or textiles
We are excited about this opportunity for our students to collect data in an authentic setting that they will then make use of in our expedition.
The field study will cost $5.00 per student, which includes transportation to and from the retail stores. (Cash or check made out to MGM...exact amount is required). This permission form and payment is due by Friday, September 29th to your child’s math teacher. We will depart from MGM at 9:15 A.M. and return around 11:30 A.M. Students will only be dismissed from MGM.
Students are encouraged to wear comfortable, school appropriate clothing. They will be instructed to bring a notebook and writing utensil for collecting data.
We will need parents/guardians to help chaperone the field study. If you are interested, please fill out the contact information below and turn in to the main office. Also, return the attached field trip form and keep the information letter for your records. Again, field trip form and money are due by Friday, September 29th to your child’s math teacher.
Thank you,
7th Grade MGM Teachers
Attached is information regarding parent volunteers, etc. If you can help us for a few hours on Friday, Oct. 20, please fill out the attached form and drop it off at the main office. Contact Niki Watchinski @ nwatchinski.com or 821-0600 if you have any questions.
Want a Chance to Attend the Palmetto Bowl?
MGM is participating in the Read Your Way to the Big Game Reading Contest this year! This is a chance for your student to win tickets to the Clemson vs. USC game at the Palmetto Bowl in November. For students to be entered into the drawing to receive four tickets and sideline passes, they need to read 6 books between September 5th to November 6th. Reading logs are available from ELA teachers, the Learning Commons, download one from the Learning Commons Schoology Course, or use this form. Turn your reading log into your ELA teacher or the Learning Commons by November 6th to be entered into the drawing.
The Learning Commons has a MakerSpace where students can create and collaborate with different projects and DIY activities during their lunchtime. We would like to have some activities with Lite Brites. If you have old Lite Brites/pieces that you would be willing to donate, please have your student bring them by the Learning Commons. We are also in need of bottle caps. Thanks so much!
