Math Updates:
When we are not testing, we are going to continue to screen for Title One. Thank you in advance for your flexibility as we continue this process!
Reading Updates:
At primary CP, teachers unpacked and reviewed the new Foundational Literacy Skills Kit.
They also discussed the updated implication guide for Literacy Centers, podcast and Centers Guide. Teachers shared their excitement about implementing FLS in September.
F&P reminders: Continue to have daily GR instruction (alternate between groups that will not meet with you on a particular day )
Record specific notes during the Comprehension Conversation. This information is valuable for grouping students during articulation.
If you have questions, please see Laurie.
Social & Emotional Updates:
This week certainly emphasized the importance of self-care and reminded me that no one can do this job alone. Know that you are appreciated for all that you do. I am so lucky to work with you. Let’s work together this week to make the first week of PARCC testing great! You can only care for someone else if you first care for yourself.
PARCC and ESSA
PARCC testing will be all day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. 4th grade will be testing. This is impacting CA, intervention, and Sp. Ed. schedules as well as Chrome book and computer lab availability. Please check with those teachers if you aren’t sure how you will be impacted. This can be a stressful time of year for teachers and students. Encourage students to do their best. Please remember to check in on your teammates and provide whatever support you can.
PARCC scores are included on two parts of the ESSA house which shows our school’s data.
- Math and ELA performance on PARCC make up 20% of our school’s score.
- Growth on PARCC (meaning student improvement in performance) makes up 25% of our score.
PD Corner: Helping our students during testing
Updates from Rodney:
Updates:
- Be mindful of your tone and actions. I know everyone is tired and ready for summer, but remember the power of your words.
- Background checks should be completed for all chaperones. Please ensure if a chaperone can't attend because of the background check, they must be notified. Aileen, Laurie or can assist if needed.
- Class Dojo is a wonderful tool for communicating with parents. Be mindful of what "put in writing" on Dojo. It's best to have one/one or phone conversations with parents.
- Thank you for all you do, I hope you had a great week.
Data - Glows and Grow for Intermediate Math and Primary Reading
Intermediate Math:
Last week, we got a chance to visit some intermediate classrooms during math. Two thirds of the intermediate grades are working on Hands-On-Equations. All students were engaged and teachers did an excellent job modeling the program and answering questions. Next time we do a walk through, we will specifically focus on our walk through tool.
Primary Reading Focus:
Glows
9 out of 9 teachers had standard based outcomes posted.
9 out of 9 teachers had students using literacy based technology during Guided Reading rotations.
8 out of 9 teachers had students repeat the Thinking Job before reading.
Grows

7 out of 9 teachers had a focus on the Comprehension Support portion of the GR lesson.
