Because we care, we RECYCLE!!!
RRR Study
Dear parents,
We hope you all had a wonderful and restful Spring break! Our children had a great time learning about our natural environment. Plants, trees, seeds, animals and more, these were the center of attention for quite some time and we managed to bring it to a terrific closure at the zoo. However, our next unit; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, will blend in magically with all we have already learned. The objective of this new unit is to help students understand how important it is to be more aware of the world around them, point out problems and brainstorm solutions or positive actions.
In this unit, students will observe, gather data, explore and propose solutions to everyday problems. We will also require some help from you at home by helping to collect different objects we can investigate here at school. As we study trash and garbage and how we can reduce, reuse and recycle, we will learn concepts related to math, literacy, science, arts etc. Our aim is to guide our students towards developing important questions after they have explored, observed and investigated a variety of concepts and materials.
These are some of the objectives we were working on during the week:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the alphabet
- Uses number concepts and operations
- Compares and Measures
- Demonstrates knowledge of print and its uses
- Demonstrates emergent writing skills
We've been having so much fun with recyclables! We used scrap, goose (good on one side) paper to create new things; we made kites with plastic bags, our dramatic play center is turning into a supermarket and we're also using egg cartons, old CDs and paper towel rolls to replace blocks in our blocks center!
At home, you can support our unit by talking about the trash your family generates, have them take some trash to the recycling center, or take them to see where the trash is disposed of. If you recycle at home, then they can take on the responsibility of sorting the trash with you.
Have a nice weekend! See you next week!

Reminders
1. We're getting ready for the Art Show and we need your help! Please send with your kids ONE plastic bottle (preferably the ones that are see-through). Medium size are ideal.
2. Remember to sign up for your PTC! (the 6th will be half day for students, and the 7th no school for the kids) It is NOT student led conference so children stay at home.
3. You will get your conference form attached in a PDF file. If you don't get yours today or have problems opening it, let me know. We will discuss them during Wednesday and Thursday.
