End of the Year Newsletter
CUSD Indigenous Education Program 2019-2020
A Short Message from Tia:
Dear Students and Families,
First of all, I sincerely apologize for the delay in posting a newsletter. The period of time between Spring break and now has been difficult, upsetting, humbling, uncertain, scary, and also a significant reminder of gratitude for the privileges that we still possess despite adversity. Although we are the Chandler Indigenous Ed. Program, acknowledging our relatives on the reservation is important. Without the infrastructure, resources, and healthcare comparable to our urban community here, the effects of COVID-19 are much more severe. However the massive amount of outside donations and relief efforts is inspiring!
I'm so proud of our CUSD students, and our 2020 graduates deserve unique praise for their accomplishments during the global pandemic. The senior banquet was unfortunately scheduled during the statewide school closure, and had to be cancelled to adhere to CDC guidelines. The health and safety of our Indigenous Ed. students, families, and staff is paramount, which sadly meant refraining from celebrations like graduation and the senior banquet.
To our families & students, CUSD community, GRIC colleagues, Indigenous Ed. advisors, and my Federal Programs team: Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and patience during this time. I hope that you are staying safe and well; I can't wait for better times to come.
♡ Ahéhee'
