Roadrunners, Let's Stay Connected
Crystal Springs Elementary School
The Weekly Wrap by Principal Nielsen
Dear Crystal Springs Families,
The 2019-2020 school year was a very uncertain and very unique year. 2020-2021 is looking as though it wants to compete for attention! Although we are excited to have your student return and we welcome our new families, it won't be under normal circumstances. We want you to know that we miss our students greatly and are hoping for a quick resolution of the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19. I truly appreciate the support from the community and I look forward to that continued partnership.
I want to stay connected with each of you. Each week I will be sending out this weekly report to keep you in the loop with all that is going on in our community. Even in these uncertain times, I am excited for another amazing year at Crystal Springs. My goal as Principal of Crystal Springs is to guide and support our staff and students to reach their highest potential and to make every moment matter, in a safe and nurturing environment whether in the classroom or online.
We know that there are many questions as to what school will look like this year. Please know that Northshore 3.0 is a robust school schedule. Teachers will be teaching all content areas. The teachers from Crystal Springs are working on what a daily schedule will look like to give you all a clear picture of each day. For now, know that the school day will occur from 8:30- 3:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. That does not mean that your child will be on Zoom that entire time. They may log on at 9:00 am, have a direct lesson from the teacher, watch a video to enhance the learning, do a small breakout session, time for movement, and complete an assignment and then go to lunch at 11:00. Students will then have an afternoon session after their "lunch/ recess" time. We are hoping to have some sample schedules soon for you.
Northshore has worked extremely hard preparing for "Northshore Learns 3.0". The district plan for returning starts with ALL STUDENTS ONLINE:

You can always access more information at the Crystal Springs webpage as well: https://crystalsprings.nsd.org/
As principal, I am always here for each of you. I strongly believe that parental involvement is an essential component to student success, as research continues to show strong correlation between increased involvement and high student success. I invite you to join me and our new Assistant Principal for a Zoom meeting for each grade level on either August 17th, 18th, or 19th. Please let me know if you need anything before then: anielsen@nsd.org
Sincerely,
Anne Nielsen
CommUNITY Outreach
As we navigate the uncertainty of Covid 19's impact on schools, one thing we can control is our ability to communicate and support one another safely. We are ROADRUNNER STRONG! Now is the time to show up and be there for our Crystal Springs Family. The community of Crystal Springs is currently working on developing a CommUNITY Outreach structure that will allow every family to be connected more closely as a neighborhood team. The purpose is to be in contact with every CS family in an effort to maintain consistent communication, support student learning and locate areas of need to support one another. Each family will be assigned to a group consisting of your CS neighborhood members to form a team. We are looking for team liaisons who will be a point of contact and help to facilitate and communicate from your team to the school.
We recognize the level of stress placed upon everyone right now. We also know that effective communication structures and planning will alleviate stress. Now is our chance to be creative, work together and support our Crystal Springs CommUNITY.
Welcome our new AP- Sean Schoenfeldt
We are so excited to have a new Assistant Principal join our team- Sean Schoenfeldt. He is excited to serve the community of Crystal Springs. He has been in education for over 20 years with the last 8 as an administrator. Mr. Schoenfeldt has a passion for not only working with students but with the families and community as well. He hopes to meet all of you as together we can provide the best education possible for your child. He looks forward to forging lasting relationships with students, staff, and families of Crystal Springs Elementary. Please feel free to reach out to him with questions, concerns, and just generally to say hello.

Learning Management System is coming- Schoology
To support teaching and learning for the 2020-2021 school year, the Northshore School District will utilize a common, districtwide learning management system.
The learning management system (LMS) will have widespread uses among subjects, supporting both distance and in-person learning, and will have enduring use beyond the 2020-21 school year. The system will support both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (flexible-time) use by students and staff. Materials and integrated tools housed within the system will be accessible and usable by all types of learners to the extent possible. The learning management system will enable communication between various groups including staff, students, and families.
Video on Schoology: https://youtu.be/QgHWMGlGgbk
Schoology was chosen because we heard from parents across all the grade levels for a need for a common learning platform. Schoology will provide that platform for parents to check and review student progress K-12th grade.
More information about our new LMS will be announced soon!
Free and Reduced Lunch Applications
These can now be completed online. The online applications will be available in English and Spanish on the Northshore School District website at: https://www1.nsd.org/schools/get-started/food-services/free-and-reduced-price-breakfast-lunch
The application only takes a few minutes and is the fastest, easiest way to get approved.
Paper applications are also available in the school office and at the district office.
*FAMILIES MUST REAPPLY FOR BENEFITS EACH YEAR- COMPLETE ONLY ONE APPLICATION PER HOUSEHOLD.
*Qualifying for free and reduced lunch also ensures your child receives financial support for school items such as sports, 5th grade camp and field trips.
Online Registration for the 2020-2021 School Year
NEW Online Student Registration for the 2020-2021 School Year
The launch that was on Feb 3 is for new students only for the 2020-2021. This includes Kindergartners and new students in other grades.
The District is moving to online as the primary method of enrolling to increase convenience, efficiency and equity. It is our goal to have all new enrollments completed online. Online enrollment can be completed on any internet-enabled device. However, if a family is unable to do so, they will be able to access a laptop or other device at their neighborhood school. They will also be permitted to complete the paper enrollment forms if requested.
The online enrollment module is part of ParentVUE, so families will have the benefit of choosing their preferred language in the presentation of the prompts and data gathering. However, any text responses in this tool need to be in English.
Online enrollment will allow families to scan and upload copies of a variety of documents, including birth certificates, documents showing proof of residency, and immunization records. Synergy’s data privacy policies are vetted and secure, so there should be no concern about loss of sensitive data. However, you may bring in documentation if preferred.
