May Monthly News
BROOKER CREEK ELEMENTARY
Summer is quickly approaching, but it is not here yet! There is still much to do. As you have heard, FAST testing begins on Tuesday, May 2. These assessments are very important. First, they are used to determine promotion for third grade students. Second, they are used to determine class placements for students moving to 6th grade. They are also used to determine the overall school grades. Please speak with your children and remind them to get a good night's sleep and to try their best on the tests.
The school's 25th Anniversary was held on Friday. The Bobcat Bash was a great success. It was great seeing parents and staff have a chance to celebrate together. We thank everyone that attended, the businesses that donated to support the event, and those that had a role in planning the event.
We also would like to thank the Toomer family and Reliant Insurance Services. They approached us with a program to increase independent reading minutes for students in grades 2-5. They provided a Glo-Celebration to each student meeting their goals for December through March. We are thankful for their interest in student reading.
We hope you all have a great May and thank you for joining us in a partnership to educate your child.
Congratulations to Alex Bull
This is a very big deal!!! We recently learned that FAEA named Alex Bull’s submission, Spread Your Wings, as the Elementary Winner for the 2023 FAEA K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition program! Over 1800 entries from students across Florida in grades K-12 were submitted this year for the assessment program. All entries were adjudicated in an anonymous review process, and those that scored a perfect 4.0 from all of the judges assigned to your grade level were considered for a top award.
We are quite proud of Alex and Mrs. Livingston, his art teacher. Mrs. Livingston submits student art work into competitions and shows all around the state and county. Our students frequently win awards. Alex's piece is shown below.
Clinic News
End of the year Medication pickup
As the end of the school year quickly approaches, I wanted to remind all parents with students that have medication in the clinic, that they need to pick up the medication by the end of the school year. The last day of school this year is May 25, 2023 and dismissal time is 12:55. All medication in the clinic needs to be picked up by 3:00 pm on May 25, 2023. Any medication that has not been picked up by that time WILL be disposed of or destroyed. I know that days get hectic and people forget, so I will be sending home reminder letters as it gets closer to the last day for you all to mark your calendars for this pickup date and time. This medication can be extremely expensive, and I would hate to have to destroy it.
Pinellas County Schools have strict polices that do not allow students to carry medications on their person. Therefore, we are not able to give the medication to students to bring home. A parent must come to the school and sign out the medication.
If your student is enrolled in summer bridge, unfortunately you will still need to pick up the medication from school and bring it back to school on the start date for summer bridge. I understand that this is an inconvenience, but as there are days off in between school being dismissed and summer bridge starting, the school cannot store the medication. Summer bridge this year is at Brooker Creek Elementary School.
If you are unable to pick up the medication on this date, please pick up medication prior to school being dismissed for the summer. I will be more than happy to assist you with this prior to the school year ending.
I will also be sending home a health history form for next year. If you plan to come back to Brooker Creek Elementary, could you please send back the form before this school year ends. This gives me a head start to next year and it is less paperwork for you all to fill out at the start of the school year.
Thank you all for your support throughout the school year. Have a safe, healthy and relaxing summer. I look forward to next year.

East Lake Sunrise Rotary Club May Student of the Month
Mrs. Katsourinis and Mrs. Miller are so proud to nominate Madison Dion as BCE’s East Lake Sunrise Rotary Club May Student of the Month! Her perseverance and work ethic are beyond measure. Madison’s motivation and desire to do well in all she does allows her to excel academically, demonstrating positive behavior within the classroom. Her kind and inclusive personality is one we would like all students to aspire to. Students look up to Madison as an example of how to navigate difficult situations and achieve goals despite the many extracurricular activities she is involved in outside of school. She demonstrates responsibility as a Safety Patrol, participates in Art Club, enjoys hip hop dancing, and has been a Girl Scout since the first grade. Madison is also extremely artistic and created the winning design for this year’s fifth grade t-shirt. This energetic and positive young lady is truly a Bobcat that ROARS!

PE NEWS
Hey Bobcats! We're almost there! We've had a great school year out in PE. We hope the students have had fun and learned a few things as well. We just finished up with a putt-putt and frisbee golf unit. We also worked with the students on bowling and shuffleboard skills. We will finish up the year with some group games and other activities we know the students will enjoy! Thank you as always for your support when it comes to your child's PE experience!

Elementary School Wellness Guidelines
While we know that students and families enjoy providing treats to students, particularly on birthdays, there are strict rules and guidelines provided for the elementary student consumption of food items. We try to use our best discretion for these situations. The link provided below will take you to the district website outlining the guidelines, but we have included a graphic below. Items such as candy, cupcakes, and donuts do not meet the guidelines and we ask that you please do not provide them as the office staff will remind individuals of the guidelines. The link and graphic provided list options that are acceptable, and we ask that you make allowable selections when needed. Thank you for understanding.

Time to Prepare for Back-to-School forms
Though the back to school forms aren't available for 2023-2024, you can prepare by making sure you are linked to your child's Focus form. You can, and should, do this step now. It will save you frustrations later. The forms should be available in late July, but the school will not be open at full capacity at that time.
The district has compiled all Back-to-School forms, so parents can fill them out in one place - online. Simply log into Focus at focus.pcsb.org and complete your Back-to-School Forms packet.
You will be prompted as soon as you log into Focus. Forms are also available at www.pcsb.org/backtoschoolforms.
Please note: Parents must be linked to their student to use the new Focus forms.
See the Focus Forms Tip Sheet (English and Spanish - pdf)
Need to change or update your password? Visit https://www.pcsb.org/passwords and see "Parent Info."
Still have questions: Check out the Focus Forms Intro Video.
- Enroll for the Self Service Reset Password Management at https://ssrpm.pcsb.org.
- After enrolling, you will be able to reset your password. You will need to create a complex password that is a minimum of 10 characters long. New passwords will require at least one character from three of the following four categories: lower case alphabetic (a-z), upper case alphabetic (A-Z), numeric (0-9) and special characters (examples: ! @ or #).
If you are unable to change your password online or if you do not know your username or password, please visit your child’s school. Remember to bring your identification with you.
If you have questions about the forms or your login information, please contact your child's school.
If you need technical support, contact the PCS Helpdesk at 727-588-6060.
