Online Orientation: Sneak Peek @ Class Lists!
Online Orientation on MyPaymentsPlus is going on now!
For families that completed Online Orientation by 1:00PM today, we went ahead and posted a sneak peek at class lists. These families can swing by the school this weekend, and learn who their child's teacher will be for the 2019-2020 school year. (Note: completing Online Orientation means you have acknowledged 4 of the electronic Orientation Agreements in MyPaymentsPlus: AKS, Dyer Handbook, GCPS Handbook & Attendance Policy.)
Haven't completed the online portion of Orientation yet? You still have time. Classroom assignments will be posted at the front of the school on Tuesday, July 30th for all students whose parents have completed Online Orientation by 11:59PM on 7/28. This will allow parents to avoid lines and head directly to their child’s classroom on Open House/Meet the Teacher Day (8/1).
If you do not complete the Online Orientation process by the 7/28 deadline, you can still log into MyPaymentsPlus to complete it, however, you will need to report to the lab on Thursday 8/1 for your child’s class placement information.
If you have any trouble accessing MyPaymentsPlus, please call the school office at 770-963-6214 or stop by and we will be happy to help you. (You are welcome to use our computers too.)
If you are unable to complete the Online Orientation forms before your arrive to meet your teacher Thursday, 8/1 please report directly to Lab A where our staff will assist you. Please note, many GCPS schools hold their Open House/Meet the Teacher on the same day. This causes the MyPaymentsPlus website to get bogged down. Historically folks who try to complete Online Orientation at Open House/Meet the Teacher have had to wait for quite a while, and have had trouble accessing their account. We strongly advise you to go ahead and get this step completed by the 7/28 deadline. We promise you will have a much better experience if you are able to head straight to class!
Open House/Meet the Teacher: Thursday 8/1
Open House/Meet the Teacher - Thursday, 8/1
Last names A-M: 9:30AM-10:15AM
Last Names N-Z: 10:15AM - 11:00AM
*Note: The above schedule has changed slightly from the schedule that was mailed home.
Come meet your child’s teacher, drop off school supplies, review emergency contact information, and complete transportation forms before school starts on Monday 8/5!
Complete Online Orientation on MyPaymentsPlus by 7/28, and head straight to your child’s classroom to meet their teacher(s) . This year, we’re trying something new and having students come at different times based on their last name. We’re hoping this will give all of you a little more one on one time with your teachers. Please note: if you can’t make it during your designated time, it’s okay to come later/earlier, so long as you’re in the 9:30-11:00 window.
While you’re here, please be sure your child’s teacher has a completed Transportation Authorization form on file for your child. If we do not have a completed form on file, we must send your child home via bus per GCPS Transportation Policy.

PAWSitively Exciting News!
During the first two weeks of school (and beyond) students will learn about the behavior expectations in each area of the school from the classrooms, to hallways, cafeteria, buses and so on. We teach these expectations using the acronym PAWS:
- Personal Best
- Act Responsibly
- Work & Play Safely
- Show Respect
Students are acknowledged and praised for exhibiting desired behaviors. In years past, we used a paper ticket economy where students would earn tickets that could be redeemed for prizes and parties. This year, we are shifting to an electronic points based economy. This new PBIS Rewards system will make it easier for all of our staff members to recognize students' positive behavior. While our ticket economy is going paperless, our student rewards (PAWS cart, PAWS Parties, raffles, etc.) will remain the same.
Parents, you can help support this program in a variety of ways:
- Review the DES behavior expectations with your child using our PAWS acronym.
- Donate your time! We will need parent helpers to help students shop on the prize cart, and to assist with PAWS parties throughout the year. New this year! We are seeking a PAWS Parent for each grade level to assist in securing items for prize carts, and helping to plan PAWS parties. (See your child's teacher for more information.)
- Help solicit local businesses for small gifts and/or gift cards for staff rewards.
- Donate prizes for students. Anything from dollar tree/Oriental trading items to gift cards.
- Make a financial contribution of $5 per student (part of Online Orientation fees) to help offset the cost of student prizes/parties & PBIS Rewards Program software.
- Support our PAWS fundraisers and spirit nights throughout the year. We already have two fundraisers up and running, birthday messages on our marquee and Stay PAWSitive t-shirts, see below for more information.
STAY PAWSitive T-shirts: On Sale Now!
Sizes are available in Youth XS through Adult 3X. Cost is $15 (additional charge for 2X & 3X) and orders can be placed via MyPaymentsPlus through Friday 8/30. We will have samples in a full size run available at both curriculum nights for anyone that would like to see the shirt in person. Shirts will be delivered the second week in September.
Birthday Wishes in Big Lights!
