Happy fall, y'all!
With the cooler temperatures and changing leaves comes a calm that I just LOVE! Of course, the fall season is full of lots of exciting events (Pirate athletics and the Pirate Pride band...am I right?!?) but the school year always seems to hit a stride in September.
I want to thank you all for your support as we have settled into our new home! Just this morning, we were able to get some fantastic updates regarding ongoing projects on our campus.
~ Our playground is slated to be completed next week! Our Pirates have been so patient as they watched construction each day. I can't wait for our kiddos to enjoy their play space! I just know it will be a great place for lots of make-believe, friendly games, and adventures!
~ Our "Early Childhood" learning center, in the northern outdoor space, will also be completed next week! Our goal is for our youngest learners and students with disabilities to have an area dedicated to pretend play and fine/gross motor skill development. Students will have the opportunity to play in their very own "town" complete with a schoolhouse, fire station, nature center, and more! Students will have access to tricycles (and helmets) so they can work on coordination, as well! Additionally, our occupational and physical therapists will be able to utilize these spaces for authentic sessions with our Pirates!
~ Our outdoor learning space, on the southern side of the building, is also near completion. We are waiting for one more tree to be planted and for the gate to be installed. This space provides learners with a variety of graphic organizers (Venn Diagram, bubble map, etc.) and an outline of the state of Texas so that students can use chalk to record their learning.
~ Seven individual grade-level-specific murals will soon be installed, depicting content for each grade level. These gorgeous illustrations are sure to capture the imagination of our Pirates! I can't wait for our students to get to stand next to a life-size illustration of an elephant or be able to trace the history of our great state...just a few ways the artwork will connect to their learning!
~ All of our Nanawalls have been installed in our classrooms. These are the glass walls that separate our learning spaces from the grade-level collaborative space. Our teachers and students are now utilizing these walls to provide some "sound proofing" when needed, but are still able to open their walls for engaging experiences as a grade level or co-teaching team when they choose to do so!
Each day at East is much like Christmas morning! New jobs and tasks being completed each day make this dream feel more and more like a reality. I am so thankful that this building is home to our staff and your students and that we are getting to lay the foundation for years of innovative education our campus. Thank you for joining us on this adventure! I hope your children will cherish their memories at East for many years to come!
Every day is a GREAT day to be an East Elementary Pirate!

Charleston Wrap Fundraiser - Starts Sept. 24
Charleston Wrap not only includes a ton of adorable gift wrap options, but also home goods, personalized gifts, and food options. Our hope is that a tradition of purchasing holiday wrapping items will be established so that our families and other community members come to depend on East Elementary students to meet their needs for gift-giving and gift wrapping!
A "sneak peek" display of items from Charleston Wrap will be set-up in our Discovery Center for families to preview as we kick off this fundraiser!
Traditional orders will be taken by our students. We will also have an online option for family members and friends who are out of town!
Our campus fundraising site is: www.charlestonwrapstore.com
Our campus code is: z-15339
More information will be coming home soon, but you are certainly welcome to login and start perusing the neat things we'll be offering! All items should arrive before Thanksgiving, just in time for holiday wrapping and gift-giving!
All East Elementary fundraising efforts will go towards establishing "The Leader In Me" - a character education program, based on the work of Covey and "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People".
