Updates/Implications for Passage of HB-13

Last Thursday the NC State General Assembly passed House Bill 13. The bill reduces the average class size in grades K-3 to 20 in North Carolina schools. An individual K-3 class size can be up to 23 students but the school K-3 average cannot exceed 20. The passage of the bill gives a one year reprieve to a bill signed at the end of the 2015-16 legislative session that calls for more extreme class size reductions. More information regarding this will be forthcoming during the 17-18 school year.

What does this mean for Pleasant Union?

We will have to add some classrooms. It will involve adding a second double track in specific grades so that we can meet the individual class and K-3 class average class size. The new guidelines could cause changes in some students' track assignments to meet the new state guidelines. As we have more specific information we will be communicating this to affected students' families.

Muffins for Moms

On Friday, May 12th, the PTA invites students to bring their moms to school to enjoy an early Mother's Day treat together! Muffins, juice and coffee will be served in the cafeteria from 8:00 - 8:45 am. Go to http://www.puepta.com/rsvp.html to RSVP for the event. In order to have plenty of food and drinks for everyone, we must have an accurate number of how many guests to expect. If Mom is not available, you are welcome to bring another adult with you. Please RSVP by Wednesday, May 10th.

Dear Parents of Pleasant Union Elementary School
We are excited to announce that student transportation information can now be found in one single location, Home Base, also known as Powerschool. In order to provide the highest level of customer service to our families we are asking those of you who do not yet have a Powerschool account to stop by the school office to complete the necessary form. You can find more information at www.wcpss.net/student-information.

Once you have a Powerschool account, look for the transportation tab to see your student’s transportation status and type. If your student is a bus rider, stop and route information is also provided.
