STE(A)M Resources for At-Home Learning
The Tennessee Department of Education and the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN) today released a STE(A)M Resource Hub for educators and families to use with students during COVID-related school closures.
The STE(A)M Resource Hub includes three weekly challenges focused around design thinking, STEM habit development, and career exploration that can all be done in the home. The challenges are ideal for students grades 3-12, but younger students can also participate with parental assistance. The STE(A)M Resource Hub also includes a portal for parents or educators to ask questions and receive additional support.
Each challenge comes with a step-by-step directions for the activity, as well as additional resources to continue exploring the topic. Families and educators are encouraged to use the corresponding hashtags and #LearningInPlaceTN to share their work on social media.

⬇️ Senior Work Ethic Diploma Info ⬇️
The April 24th deadline to apply to earn the Work Ethic Diploma is quickly approaching. Those of you that attended the senior meetings have received information and registered for Work Ethic Diploma. Many of you have already started tracking your points on a hard copy as well. Unfortunately, we are not having our senior meeting this month that would allow us to follow-up and submit your hard copy/points. So, we are going to change to an online Google Tracking Form (here). Please take a few minutes to review information about the Work Ethic Diploma & Work Ethic Diploma Standards here and to complete this form at your convenience between now and Friday, April 24, 2020.
Students earning this distinction will be notified by Friday, May 8th with pin & certificate delivery to be determined. This is a GREAT way to prove to potential employers that you are Work READY!!
School News App by Edlio
We have started to use the School News app by Edlio, an activity feed for consuming alerts, news, and events for participating schools. It’s a simple way to view the school’s news feeds and calendars, and also receive push notifications directly from us.
It’s free to download to your iOS or Android phone and quick to set up:
- Go to the App Store or Google Play and search for “School News by Edlio” to install.
- Open the app and search for D-B EXCEL; tap “Add School.” If you have kids in other Edlio-powered schools, add them to the app too.
- Enable push notification by going to the Alerts tab and tapping “Enable Notifications.”
All of the news and events posted to our website are posted here for easy access. You can also add multiple Edlio-powered schools and/or districts to gather all news, events, and alerts in this one app. We’ll send push notifications out to keep you updated on urgent news.
