7th Grade ACTS Newsletter

September 28th - October 2nd

Science - Mrs. Sexton

We will continue our study of abiotic ecology. We are looking closely at ground water and soil.

Science - Mrs. Griffin

The students will begin working on the Ecology Unit 2: Soil. The focus this week will be natural disasters and introduce soil quality within the ecosystem. Please continue to encourage students to check their Google Classes each night.

Math - Mr. Smith

7th grade math students completed their chapter 2 test and these have been returned and posted to powerschool.

Students are now learning how to use the proportion ideas from chapter 1 and 2 to solve problems involving percents. Many good real-life applications here that you can help your child with. Discounts, sales tax, commission, tips and simple interest to name a few.

I anticipate a chapter 3 quiz next Friday, October 2nd.

ELA - Mrs. Templeton

In Language Arts this week we will continue to read fiction and identify story elements.

We will draft our first rough draft on our realistic fiction writing. I am so excited.

We have a vocabulary test on Thursday.

Social Studies - Mrs. Babb

This week's focus is on The Enlightenment (Standard 7-2.2). Students will describe the influence of Enlightenment ideas-particularly those of John Locke, Montesquieu, and Rousseau-on the growth of democracy.In addition, they will outline the role or purposes of a constitution

(Standard 7-2.3).Classes will define essential vocabulary,create a comparison/contrast chart that determines mastery of the political ideas of the thinkers during the 18th century, and design a foldable for review purposes.

Drama - Mrs. Keenan

7th grade Drama students performed scenes from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for the class this week, in full Shakespearean text! We will reflect on these performances and begin watching a film version of the play next week.

Dance - Mrs. Brewington

7th dance focus: We completed our study of Tinikling a folk dance from the Philippines. We will begin our unit on weight sharing and counterbalance which will be followed by a choreography project to test proficiency. Please encourage your child to bring Chromebook fully charged to class and check google classroom daily. We have assignments daily on the Chromebooks.

Art - Mr. Winchester

7th Grade FOCUS is working on lioness masks for the 8th grade production of "The Lion King, Jr." Also, parents, please ask your child about Artsonia if they have not already mentioned it to you. I sent home slips to be signed and returned last week.

Strings - Ms. Hrivnak

7th grade focus is learning how to play in 6/8 time signature. We will
be working more on Dragonhunter and Road Less Traveled, and possibly
adding a new piece into the rotation. We will not have a quiz next
Friday.

Voice - Mrs. Psomas
