Remote Learning Extension: January 10 - January 14

Hello STEM Families. Unfortunately, Chester Upland School District has determined all classes must remain remote next week (Monday, January 10 through Friday, January 14). The current surge in Covid infections has necessitated this decision, as a high number of students and staff members have reported being positive. Please review the information below in order to stay fully updated on how we will operate at STEM this week.

Keystone Exams

Despite schools being remote, Keystone Exams will proceed in-person at STEM Academy. Please see the schedule below for dates and times. Students who must take these exams and their parents will receive further information in separate emails.

Monday, January 10: Literature and Algebra - all students currently taking English II with Ms. Alston and/or Algebra with Mr. Freedman will test from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This will be Day Two of the exam which began on Thursday.

Tuesday, January 11 & Wednesday, January 12: Biology - all students currently taking Biology with Ms. Adore will test from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Transportation and meals will be provided to all testing students.

Daily Schedule

During the week of January 10, all students will continue following the schedule below. They will log into their assigned teachers' Zoom rooms at the times indicated.

Big picture

I am happy to report that STEM Academy average daily attendance was just 1% lower during the week of remote learning than during the previous month. The vast majority of our students are staying engaged and working hard to remain focused on their classes. Thank you to students and families for your support!

For those who are not logging in, please remember: Attendance during remote learning is mandatory and taken in every class period.

Students and families, please contact friends and family members who attend STEM (and other schools), and remind them to log in to their classes. Let's all support each other until we can get back to in-person learning!

Technology Equipment

In order to participate in Remote Learning, students need their CUSD issued Chrome Book computer and a Wifi connection.

If you are in need of assistance securing Wifi, please email Ms. Memon ( or call the STEM office at 610-447-3650 on Monday morning (January 10).

Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and your family from serious cases of Covid.

A vaccination clinic will be held at Chester High School on Thursday, January 13 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. First, second, and booster shots will be available and free to anyone eligible to receive them.

You can also check out the CUSD Vaccination Calendar for more information on available vaccination.

Thank You

Once again, I would like to thank our entire school community - our amazing teachers and staff, our supportive families, and our great students! The shift back to remote learning was unexpected and has been challenging. We will continue working together to get through this, and return to school as soon as possible.
