The Serene Scoop
Serene Hills Elementary School --- October 26, 2018
Book Character Dress up Day is Oct. 31
2nd grade Reader's Theater was amazing! Thank you families for coming to see our showcase of learning.
Thanks Bonnie Plants & Home Depot!
Bonnie Plants (with support of Home Depot) stopped by SHE last week and delivered over 200 free plants for the Bonnie Plants 3rd Grade Cabbage Program as well as other plants for our classes. Our 3rd graders each receive a cabbage plant to grow and journal the progress through "field investigation". The "best" cabbage from each class will be entered into a drawing for $1000 (one winner in the state of Texas). We love this dynamic learning project incorporating community support. Learning continues anytime and anywhere!
Thank you parents for partnering with our 3rd graders today. They worked together to prepare for new plants to be added to our outdoor classroom. Our learning model is intentional to engage community and we are blessed with such a supportive SHE community. Great team work!
5th grade Collaboration
This week, Ms. Sykes and Ms. Cooksey brought classes together for Freedom Writing incorporating English Language Arts skills and their Social Studies curriculum. Students will be presenting their learning in a style of their choosing. They are asked not to choose the typical Slides/Powerpoint presentation, but to be creative and try something different.
Ms. Thorp's class was reflecting on their in-progress Reader's Theater project this morning and leading adjustments to improve their presentation. Students were driving the learning! Way to go team.
