Google Classroom Guardian Notifications
As conferences start to approach, remember that you might want to come up with a sign up sheet or letter to give to parents about receiving notifications from Google Classroom. Here is some of the information from Google Help:
Keep track of your student’s classroom progress through guardian email summaries. You can choose the frequency of the emails—daily or weekly—and you can unsubscribe or remove yourself from Classroom at any time.
Guardian email summaries include:
- Missing work—Work that’s late at the time the email was sent
- Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails)
- Class activity—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers
As a guardian, you must receive and accept an email invitation before you can receive email summaries. Only teachers and administrators from your student’s school can send these invitations.
Parents will have to create a Google Account when they first sign up, however they do not need a gmail address. They can sign up for a Google Account with their current email address. You may want to give them the above link in case it is not included in their invitation email.
Parents will receive only ONE email per day/week with all classes summarized within. They will not receive separate emails per class. Just be sure that you have your notifications for parents turned on. Watch a quick screencast here of how to do that.
Apple Education Training
At the beginning of this past Summer, I was able to attend a 3-day training paid for through TRIG (Technology Readiness and Infrastructure Grant) to become and Apple Education Trainer. This training allowed me to focus on some of the best practices for training other educators in using Apple Products effectively in their classrooms. It was a fun-filled 3 days of learning and collaborating with other technology education teachers, specialists, and directors from around the state. I learned so much and I can't wait to share this with you!
This school year, the TRIG Best Practices Apple Professional Learning Grant has been created to help assist a group of 6-12 educators from qualifying Districts to enhance their digital learning environments through Apple Education. The selected schools/districts will "work with a dedicated Apple Professional Learning Specialist to create a personalized and targeted professional learning plan that aligns with building/District level instructional goals." The deadline to submit the application is October 30th. I'm looking for 2-3 teachers from each building who might be interested in this opportunity. Keep in mind there will be a level of commitment involved throughout the school year. The grant states the following:
"Selected applicants will receive job embedded coaching and mentoring in an ongoing cadence focused on fostering innovative learning and teaching through a strategy that provides professional learning for educators over time. This approach reflects our belief that transformation happens best through a series of targeted coaching and mentoring sessions that center on enhancing instructional practice."
Please email me to let me know if you are interested in being on this team or if you have any questions.
