Human Growth and Development
Human Growth and Development Parent Informational Meeting
When: Tuesday, March 28, 2017
Time: 5:15 pm
Where: Horizon Library
The Human Growth and Development Parent Information meeting will be held Tuesday, March 28th at 5:15 in the Horizon Library. Learn about what topics will be covered, what will not be covered during the student lessons, preview the videos and get your questions answered.
Human Growth and Development (HG&D) lessons will be instructed to students in April or May. Permission for the lessons was completed during the online registration process last fall through Skyward. If changes need to be made, the online form will be open in Skyward starting March 28. We realize this has turned into a busy evening for families in 5th grade and will make this portion of the night as efficient as possible so you can enjoy the D.A.R.E. Graduation.

Language Arts
Penny collections are due April 7th!
Persuasive letters are in the mail, and we can not wait to hear the response from the Hershey Company! The children have done a great job and their research, evidence and opinions have been thoughtfully and creatively written.
March Madness has begun in our room with a three pointer everyday!
- one foo foo feature
- one paragraph
- one structure
The students will begin to do their layout for their historical, non-fiction books next week and the creative ideas are flowing.
MAP testing is completed for the reading portion, and I want to thank you for your extra time and encouragement that was given. The children took it very seriously but more importantly, these tests help us to continually strengthen our teaching strategies and goals for our students. Again, many thanks!
Math
Your child received their long division quiz this week. Please look for this in their Math Friday Folders. I met with students who struggled on the quiz. Also, I encouraged students to take these home and go over the problems again for extra practice.
We will continue to study long division next week by diving whole numbers by decimal numbers and decimal numbers by whole numbers. Remember, if your child is struggling, take a look at our videos on our webpage to help guide them. Also, it's a great way for them to preview upcoming lessons.
Science
Students were surprised at how easily humans pollute our water, and how difficult it can be to clean it, especially if the pollutant is a liquid. This week students tested various pollutants and filters to see which would result in cleaner water. Take a look at the video below to see their experiments.
Most students didn't finish their conclusions and brought them home to complete over the weekend.
