WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 26TH-30TH
I hope everyone enjoyed their extended break. It's nice to have a little down time before we finish this first quarter which will be here in a couple of weeks. We've got a lot going on this week so please prepare in advance. Some reminders for this week:
- Monday, September 26th-Walking Taco orders due today by 4 PM. See newsletter for information.
- Tuesday, September 27th--School picture day. Your child should have brought home the forms or you can order online. (enter code: 71545Y to order online @ www.inter-state.com.)
- Thursday--4th Grade UNK Nebraska Kid Fitness and Nutrition Day 8:30-2:30 pm
- Friday--Flu Vaccinations will be given in the afternoon IF paperwork is completed. Your child brought home a form from school. If you need another one, see the newsletter tab called Flu Consent Form and you can print your own.
- Friday-Fundraiser packets are due today. Please look at the newsletter information to see our progress so far. Our goal is to raise $30,000. Reminder: If you'd rather your child not fundraise, you can always donate money to our Kenwood PTO instead.
Also, continue to encourage your child to read daily. We will celebrate the readers who completed a percentage of their monthly goals each quarter. The quarter ends on October 13th so I'd suggest you get into a nightly routine of reading before bedtime.
The PTO will be holding a Walking Taco Night on October 4th in conjunction with the Kearney High School volleyball game. More information is shared below to order your walking tacos in advance which is necessary for them to get the correct amount of food needed. A sign up genius will go out after the orders are in for anyone wanting to help support this event.
There have been several parents asking about Kenwood t shirts. The PTO will be sending out information about the t shirt orders soon.
Have a great week!

Week of September 19th-20th
I want to thank all of you who have attended conferences already BUT we do have ONE more night of conferences--Monday, September 19th. Please sign up if you haven't OR you can contact Mrs. Fedderson and she can sign you up as well. While you are here, stop by the library. Our students love to purchase books and we love that parents are supporting their children's reading at home as well as at school.
Our fundraiser kick off was held on Friday afternoon. Your child has a packet that should've made it home. If not, I'm sure they'll bring it home after school on Monday. We ask that students do not go door to door unless the parent is with them. The money is due right away so they can write a check to Kenwood PTO. PLEASE make sure that your child's name is on the packet sheet and orders will be coming in November. This is our only BIG fundraiser of the year and it helps purchase one extra field trip per grade level and a lot of other extras for our school. Families can also choose not to fundraise and that's okay. If you'd rather donate directly to the PTO, you can make checks out to the Kenwood PTO. Thank you in advance for your support.
I want to share a BIG SHOUT OUT to our Kenwood PTO and parents as our staff has been spoiled with amazing food during our nights of conferences. We had a taco bar and tailgate food and we truly feel the love. Thanks again for all who donated and for our wonderful gals who organize, clean, and pick up the goodies at the end of the night. Your service to our school and our staff has not gone unnoticed! YOU ROCK!
That's it for this week. Have a great five day weekend!

Reminders to our students and parents last week:
- PERSONAL ITEMS Students are requested to not bring their toys or equipment of a personal nature to school, unless specifically requested by the teacher. They may be a distraction to learning and may become lost or broken, and the school cannot assume responsibility to replace these items. Students are discouraged from bringing valuables and large amounts of money to school. Students are responsible for the safekeeping of their possessions and for other items which have been assigned to their care.
- 11th Street Crosswalk-A reminder that we do not have supervision in the morning at this crosswalk. I'd encourage parents to bring students to school as the traffic is super busy in the morning.

REMINDERS
- The playground is off limits in the morning and after school until after 4:00 PM. There were students dropped off early who are not Run Club or who finish early from Run Club and they are playing on the equipment. Please do not drop off your child before 7:35 AM and reinforce to your runners that when they are finished, they wait for the doors to open or continue running.
- Cell phones/smart watches and devices- per page 9 in the KPS Parent handbook: "Students are not allowed to use cell phones or smart watches/devices for calls or for text messaging in the school building. In the event that cell phones or smart watches/devices are brought to school, they must be turned off and left in the student's locker. Misuse of a cell phone or smart watches/devices will result in the confiscation of the phone or watch/device. Parents must pick up the cell phone or watch/device from the office at the end of the school day."
- INVITATIONS/TREATS/GIFTS (page 20 KPS Parent Handbook) Children are not allowed to bring invitations or treats to be given out to classmates at school. The fact that not all students could provide treats and the possibility of causing ill feelings as a result, is of primary concern in making this rule, as well as concern for food allergies and a need for emphasis on good nutrition. Sending flowers, balloon bouquets and other gifts to students while they are at school is also discouraged, and these items will be held in the school office until the end of the school day.
I thank you for you reinforcement of these rules so we can maintain a successful learning environment for your children. It never hurts to reinforce it at school and at home. Thanks again!
