Kennedy Families,
One month down! Welcome to September Kennedy families. Great meeting many of you during our PTO meet and greet last Tuesday and look forward to meeting more of you in the weeks to come.
Here is what you need to know for the week ahead (Sept 6-9)
Principal’s Coffee update (Slide Deck from meeting Sept 1st)
Thank you to the families that joined us for Principal's coffee. The slide deck for the meeting is linked above. The next meeting is October 6th at 9:00am in the Kennedy library. In person!
Calendar update
No School Monday September 5th Labor Day
Minimum Day Tuesday September 13th (Link)
Minimum day Tuesday September 13th is due to Back to School Night that evening
Minimum day Schedule B will be the schedule followed on that day.
Picture Day September 13th
Students will be taking their pictures in the Kennedy gym during their PE classes. Picture day forms will be handed to students September 8th.
Tardies - Students Late to classes 2-7th periods
Kennedy will be beginning Academic Time during lunch for students who are late to class starting next week. Families will be notified via text message if there student has been late. If you have a student who is late to class, please follow up with him/her and encourage timely arrival to classes. We appreciate your efforts in this matter.
Kennedy Music Program
Support Kennedy's thriving music program! Make plans to dine-in or out at Redwood City BBQ on Tuesday, September 6 from 7am-9pm. Please click here to view the flyers and read how you can support Kennedy students.
Lunch Pick-up
Families that need to pick-up their students during Kennedy lunch time, please if you can, come 5 minutes before lunch begins or 5 minutes after lunch ends for pick-up. Thank you for taking this into consideration.
COVID-19
Is still a concern for our staff, students and families. We continue to recommend but not require students to wear masks. If a student is positive parents should complete the districts
self-reporting form and inform the Kennedy office. This form is available on the “Quick Links” section of the RCSD website as well as all 12 school websites.
Also if your student is sick or showing COVID-19 symptoms please keep the student home and get them tested.

Back to School Night September 13th 6:00-7:30
Kennedy Back to School Night is fast approaching. Below is some quick information to get you ready
- Schedule will be sent next Thursday September 8th to all families
General schedule will be10 minute class rotations with families visiting all 7 classes

Chromebook Distribution/ Powerschool- Parent Portal / Google Classroom
Chromebook Distribution
Chromebook distribution will be completed this Friday. If a student has been absent, when they return they can go to the library and pick-up their device. The library will issue the student a loaner for that day.
General information
Student are expected to charge their chromebook every evening and leave their charger at home
Staff will start regular instruction with chromebooks Tuesday September 6th.
Damaged devices: If a chromebook is damaged students can go the library during the school day and exchange their device for loaner while their device is repaired.
Powerschool- Parent Portal
The district is activating a Parent Portal on September 9th for all families district wide.
Kennedy school has distributed access codes to students for families this week in homeroom. Please ask your student to show you the PowerSchool letter that was given to them. We were informed that families that already have an account will be able to use their old password to login. Parent portal will provide families access to students grades as well as past student state test results.
Google Classroom
Is the central interface for digital instruction used by Kennedy staff and students. Families have and will continue to receive invites to join teachers google classroom the next week. Google classroom provides a day to day snap shot of classroom instruction. It does vary from class to class as some staff may use it more than others.
Student Council
Student Council update September 1st 2022, (Students receive this message via email and over announcements)
Thank you to everyone who has applied for a Student Council Executive Board position! Voting will occur during homeroom on September 8th. A link to the Google Form ballot will be sent to each student that morning. Homeroom Representatives will be elected during Homeroom on September 8th or September 15th.

Student Store
Cougar Cash is awarded via the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) app found in on students Clever Dashboard. New students will be taught how to use it during Homeroom.

Kennedy Clubs
Kennedy Clubs will begin the weeks of the September 22nd and 29th
Student can also propose their own club here. and based on interest it can be created. Student will be emailed this link Tuesday morning and reminded in morning announcements.
Site Council / ELAC
If you are interested in being an official part of our School Site Council and ELAC this year, please fill out the form below. Interested individuals will be asked to complete a short paragraph about you for our ballots in mid September. Voting will be included in our weekly messages.
The School Site Council and ELAC oversee how we spend our Measure U (parcel tax) dollars and site discretionary funds, and help make other decisions related to Kennedy programs. We meet the last Tuesday of each month from 6-7pm.
We need five official parents/guardians to be part of our site council, including at least one parent who has an English learner who can represent the ELAC. Others not elected are welcome to join us in our meetings, but may not be part of the official votes.

September PTO Meeting - Tuesday, 9/27/22 - via Zoom. All parents & families are welcome to join in the meeting!
Open PTO Leadership Roles-
Book Fair Coordinator - plan & organize Scholastic Book Fair in the library - Nov 14-18, 22 during school hours. Work with KMS librarian, volunteers & students.
8th Grade Activities Team - 2+ parents to lead and organize activities for 8th grade celebrations (including grad gowns, grad dance, sweatshirts, field day…)
Volunteer Coordinator - facilitate volunteering efforts for PTO
Grade Level Parent Leaders - communicate with parents at your student's grade level, plan parent connections

Science for Scientists
Science for Scientists partners with our science teachers to teach hands on inquiry based lessons that align to our grade level science standards.
