Dr. Jo Nell Shaw is an adventurous woman who loves hiking and spending time outdoors. Her experience of pregnancy and postpartum led her to create Shaw Family Practice as the place for mothers to get the care she wished she had. Her practice is built for motherhood and supports each woman as they raise families of their own. She has a deep passion to help women and children using the healing power of nature. Dr. Shaw uses naturopathic and chiropractic care to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern healthcare while providing a safe and nurturing atmosphere.
Colorado was her childhood home and where she returned to practice and raise a family with her husband after graduating the National University of Health Sciences in 2018. She also has completed advanced training through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and is certified in Webster technique. Dr. Shaw is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, ICPA, Colorado Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
It was through her own health journey as a college student and personal trainer that she discovered how beneficial a chiropractic adjustment could be. After that pivotal experience, she was called to be a doctor and needed to share this knowledge with her community. Dr. Shaw continues to train and learn advanced techniques to care for the people around her. She is a speaker and active in local groups in Fort Collins, Colorado. As a mother to a rambunctious boy and wife of a physicist, life is never boring. Dr. Shaw finds ways to incorporate nature in all areas of her life and is happiest when hiking with her family.
Preventing Travel Aches and Strains
Traveling can be rough on the body. Whether you are traveling alone, on business or on your way to a sunny resort with your family, long hours in a car or on an airplane can leave you stressed, tired, stiff and sore.
“Prolonged sitting can wreak havoc on your body,” says Scott Bautch, DC, a member of the American Chiropractic Association’s (ACA) Council on Occupational Health. “Even if you travel in the most comfortable car or opt to fly first class, certain pressures and forces from awkward positions can result in restricted blood flow. One of the biggest insults to your system from prolonged sitting is the buildup of pressure in the blood vessels in your lower legs. Contracting and relaxing the muscles helps the blood flow properly.”

Your brain on GRATITUDE...
We are all generally aware of the benefits of gratitude—which include a more positive outlook on life, and even physical benefits such as a reduction in the symptoms of stress. Especially as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we make a mental note to be more grateful.
In its summary of the benefits of gratitude, Berkeley’s Great Good Science Center cites recent research showing how feeling grateful enhances functioning in regions of the brain governing social bonds, and our ability to read others. Moreover, even though we think of gratitude as an emotional state, it also enhances cognitive functioning and decision-making.
This research confirms Barbara Fredrickson’s assertion that gratitude has a “broadening” effect on how we think, and at how we look at the world. It allows us to “discard automatic responses and instead look for creative, flexible, and unpredictable new ways of thinking and acting.” When we are grateful, we are more inclined to seek support from others, to reframe challenging situations through a positive lens, and to engage in creative problem-solving.
Welcome to our new & returning members!
