All You Need to Know About DeMello...
Hello DeMello Families!
What a wonderful week of teaching and learning we have had here at DeMello. On Monday, we recognized our February Students of the Month with two assemblies in the cafeteria. It is always great to come together to celebrate students with their families. As always, Mr. Hill and I also took time during morning announcements this week to acknowledge our classroom Leaders of the Pack and talk about the qualities that make these wonderful students role models and leaders in the classroom and school. It makes us so proud to be able to recognize all of our students who consistently do their best to be respectful, responsive and safe. We know our families are so proud of them, too!
Our month-long focus on literacy is also going strong. We hope your student enjoyed coming to school dressed in green and ready to partner up with a buddy class to read today!
Our ST Math March MATHness tourney is underway and going strong with classes moving forward in their competition to see which class ultimately completes the most puzzles this month! We have had the pleasure of seeing many of our classes hard at work this week. What has impressed me most is seeing students help each other when they are struggling with a tricky puzzle. The collaboration across classrooms makes me so proud. Last week our students completed 30,000 puzzles and students are excited to be working on the individual ST Math goals they've written for themselves! We have perseverance and grit in abundance here!
Yesterday, our friends in first grade designed and constructed some sophisticated leprechaun traps in preparation for St. Patrick's Day. While I was informed that no leprechauns were actually captured, it appears many traps came close!
And FINALLY, we had a special visit today from none other than Jiji, our ST Math penguin mascot, who visited our school to celebrate all of our hard work in math! Check out the picture below of our dance parade!
Again, I can speak for every adult in this building when I say that we love the work that we do with your creative, enthusiastic learners each and every day. How lucky are we to do what we do!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing your student on Monday!
