Claudius Ptolemy

About Ptolemy

Claudius Ptolemy was known as a Greece-Roman writer of Alexandria being a mathematician, astronomer, geographer, astrologer, and a poet of a single epigram in the Greek Anthology.

Ptolemy was also a astronomer. He did have something wrong though, he thought the world didn't move at all. People thought this for a very long time until in the 13th century when discovered that planets did not revolve around the earth but planets revolving around the sun.

Since Ptolemy was a mathematician he had made a more accurate explanation for pi, 3.1416. But soon people found that it wasn't equal to pi.

Why Does It Matter? How Did It Affect the World?

Why I think it matters is because Ptolemy was many things like a mathematician, astronomer so even if he was wrong he still had very smart theories. How I think Ptolemy's theories affected the world is that since people didn't know the real truth so they didn't think if Ptolemy was wrong.
