Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School
August 2019
Welcome Back!
Mr. Dargan and I are excited to welcome everyone back to school for the 2019-2020 school year. The building has been cleaned and the classrooms are ready to go. We are looking forward to meeting our incoming third grade students and new students and to welcoming our fourth and fifth grade students back. It was such a whirlwind when Mr. Dargan and I transitioned to Lower back in January. We cannot wait to get the year started off with the teachers and students!
The first day of school for students is Monday, August 26, 2019. Our school day begins at 9:00 AM. Students may arrive at 8:30 AM. Breakfast is not served on the first day of school.
The school day begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:25 PM. Students arriving after 9:00 AM, must check in at the main office.
When students arrive on Monday, we ask that third grade students report to the cafeteria and fourth and fifth grade students report to the gymnasium. The teachers will be waiting in those locations to greet the children. There will also be staff on hand to direct the children to the appropriate locations.
Transportation
Bus postcards were mailed home directly from CMD. Please contact CMD at 610-323-5020 with any questions pertaining to busing information. You may also contact the main office at 610-323-7510 and they can work with CMD to get you an answer.
During the first few days of school, please expect delays with pick ups and drop offs. Students should be at their bus stop at least 5 minutes prior to their assigned pick up time.
There will be delays in the afternoon as we work to ensure all students are on their assigned bus. Please remember that with few exceptions our buses also service either Ringing Rocks or West Pottsgrove. You will be notified via School Messenger if there is going to be an unusually long delay in getting students home.
Car Line
AM: Parents choosing to transport their children to school may begin to drop them off at 8:30 AM. We cannot accept children prior to 8:30 AM because there is not adequate staff to supervise them. Car line forms in the rear of the building near the main office entrance. Staff will be on hand to direct the flow of traffic and to assist you as needed. Students should exit on the right side of the car onto the sidewalk. If you are coming into the building, please park and come inside so as to not disrupt the flow of the car line. Due to the number of students at Lower it is necessary to keep the flow of traffic moving in an orderly fashion.
PM: Parent pick up also takes place in the rear of the building. It is important to pull as far forward along the curb as you can, there will be staff on hand to direct you. You will receive a car tag with the last name of your child written on it. If the tag is not displayed, please be prepared to show your ID. We ask that parents remain in their cars to keep the flow of traffic moving. Please remain patient and do not attempt to go around other cars to move ahead in the line, this puts the safety of everyone at risk. Parents may pull into the overflow lot (where the paper dumpsters are located) in an effort to keep traffic from backing up onto Buchert Road.
School Meals
Breakfast: Is served daily with the exception of the first day of school. All students may purchase breakfast for $1.70. Students receiving free or reduced lunch are also eligible for free or reduced breakfast.
Lunch: The cost for lunch is $2.70. Students are also welcome to pack their lunch. Please do not send glass bottles or containers. We do not have the capacity to warm things up for students in the cafeteria. Students may also purchase milk and snacks. Snacks are not covered by the free or reduced lunch program.
* Free or Reduced Lunch status from the previous school year is available until early October, it is necessary for families to reapply on an annual basis. The paperwork can be found on the district web site.
Second Chance Breakfast: This is new to LPES this year as the result of a grant the district received. This will start on September 3. Details will be sent home the first week of school.
