Staff to Participate in Summer Professional Development
Thank you to Mr. Adams, Mrs. Norman, Mrs. McLachlan, and Mrs. Wise for the time invested in providing summer school opportunities for our students.
On June 11-13 several elementary teachers will be taking advantage of a phenomal opportunity to learn more about project based learning directly from the leaders in the field- The Buck Institute. We look forward to incorporating the principles of PBL in a deeper way at the elementary level next year as a result of this training.
Congratulations to Mr. Adams, 6th-12th Science teacher, who has been selected by Summit Learning to become a staff trainer. Mr. Adams will attend a week long training himself in Chicago in the middle of June and will then lead training sessions for new teachers the following week in Wichita.
Staff members who are new to the secondary building and the Summit Learning program will attend training in Louisville, Kentucky from July 8-12.
Finally, Fowler Junior/Senior High School has been asked to present about Personalized Learning at the Impact Institute on July 18th in Pratt.
We appreciate the willingness of our staff to choose to engage in these professional opportunities as we work to create the best possible education for students in Fowler, and as we share our knowledge with other communities to benefit their students as well.

Challenge your students to apply the 7 Habits in their daily lives this summer!
BE PROACTIVE®: THE HABIT OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
When people focus on things they can control, their Circle of Influence begins to grow. Be Proactive is about taking responsibility for one’s own life. Proactive people don’t blame parents, circumstances, or conditions for their behavior. Instead, they choose to focus on areas of life that lie within their circle of influence.
BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND®: THE HABIT OF PERSONAL VISION.
Create and live by a Personal Mission Statement. Your Personal Mission Statement will provide your life with direction and purpose. It reminds you what you value and what is important to you, helping guide your decisions. It's like a GPS for your life.
PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST®: THE HABIT OF TIME MANAGEMENT.
Focus on your highest priorities. Habit 3 is really about life management--your purpose, values, roles, and priorities. What are "first things?" First things are those things you, personally, find of most worth. If you put first things first, you are organizing and managing time and events according to the personal priorities you established in Habit 2.
THINK WIN-WIN®: THE HABIT OF MUTUAL BENEFIT.
Consider other people's wins as well as your own. Win-Win is a frame of mind and heart that seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. It's based on the paradigm that there's plenty for everybody, that one person's success is not achieved at the expense of others.
SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD®: THE HABIT OF EMPATHIC COMMUNICATION.
Listen with sincerity and empathy. Seeking to be understood is the second half of effective communication. Once you are confident the other person feels completely understood, you may share your point of view with respect and openness. Just like Empathic Listening, seeking to be understood requires both intent and skill.
SYNERGIZE®: THE HABIT OF CREATIVE COOPERATION.
Seek out 3rd alternatives in working together. When you are effective, you seek 3rd Alternatives–not "my way" or "your way," but better ideas and solutions that you come up with together. By valuing differences in other people, Synergy can take place.
SHARPEN THE SAW®: THE HABIT OF DAILY SELF-RENEWAL.
Achieve the Daily Private Victory. The Daily Private Victory is a daily practice. It's a pattern, routine, or regimen that you follow every day to renew yourself in the four dimensions of your life. Achieving the Daily Private Victory will affect every decision and every relationship in a positive way.
