Knights of Columbus Scholarship Opportunity
On announcements this week, I told students that any 8th grader considering a Catholic high school next year has the opportunity to receive a scholarship from the Knights of Columbus. In years past it has been worth $1000. I told students that their parents would probably appreciate them looking into this. I am letting you know in case you want to encourage them also. The scholarship forms are available outside of the school office.

St. Louis 8th Grade defeats Sunman Dearborn 47-41
Game Summary:
The St. Louis 8th Grade Cardinals played last week against the host Sunman Dearborn Trojans and it turned out to be a hard fought and well-played game by both teams. St. Louis got things going early offensively and led the Trojans 15-8 after the 1st quarter. The Cardinals held on to the lead in the 2nd quarter and went into halftime with a 25-19 lead. In the third quarter they got some good offensive production out of Sam Voegele and were able to maintain their 6 point lead as they led the Trojans 36-30 after three quarter of play. However, the Trojans battled back in the fourth and got it to within one point about midway in the quarter but St. Louis got a couple big steals and hit their free throws to hold off the tough Trojans and win the game by the score of 47-41.
The scoring against Sunman Dearborn consisted of the following: Kurt Siefert had 2, Andrew Oesterling 12, Lleyton Ratcliffe 12, Will Freeland 7 and Sam Voegele poured in 14. Their next game will be on Thursday at St. Bartholomew in Columbus. Then on Monday the 16th St. Louis will play Jac-Cen-Del at St. Louis in the opening round of the SEI tournament.
Thanks.

St Louis 8th Grade 41 -- Jac-Cen-Del 27
Game Summary:
The St. Louis 8th Grade Cardinals hosted the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles in the 1stround of the SEI tournament last night and were able to pull off a big victory against a very talented team. The Eagles found the St. Louis bird cage a difficult to place to play in as they were not able to get their offense going all night. In the first half both teams struggled on offense as shots from close range were not able to get thru the cylinder. The half ended with the Cardinals leading JCD only 16-9. After the break, St. Louis got the offense going as their shots started to fall and were able to extend their lead to 30-18 after three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals were able to hold the Eagles at bay and went on to win 41-27.
Sam Voegele led the team in points and Kurt Siefert also had a solid performance offensively as he handled the ball very well and hit some big buckets when needed. The scoring for the Cardinals consisted of Siefert with 7, Andrew Oesterling 4, Will Freeland and Lleyton Ratcliffe each had 8 and Sam Voegele knocked in 14. Defensively the team played well to hold the potent JCD offense to just 27 points.
St. Louis now plays Sunman Dearborn in the second round of the tournament on Tuesday January 17th. The game will be played at Jac-Cen-Del high school.
Thanks

St. Louis 7th grade boys basketball at St. Bartholomew
Thursday evening January 12
The St. Louis Cardinals were able to "right the ship" and pick up a nice win versus the home team St. Bartholomew Irishmen in Columbus. A very stingy zone defense by the host team made for sporadic scoring by the Cardinals in the first half but the St. Louis youngsters were able to convert off of their different defensive sets in the second half. Thomas Raver once again lead the team in scoring with 12 followed by Abe Streator, Adam Vogelsang, Ryan Reder and Joseph Suttmann. Cody Mohr had a good game handling the point, rebounding and winning the turnover margin for the Cardinals.
St. Louis won 31-22.

St. Louis 7th grade boys basketball season ending loss to JCD at St. Louis.
The Cardinals finished a long season and demanding road schedule with a .500 record. The young team continued to practice and play hard the entire season and were certainly able to surprise a few teams.
Thank you.
Jim Mohr
