October already!

Dear PIC Families,

The last month has flown by! School is off and running, with systems, routines, and procedures in place. We have hosted Curriculum night, celebrated Homecoming, successfully met our fundraising goal for the Perry Centennial Pavilion & Gardens, and launched our raffle ticket fundraiser which pays for student field trips and other unique learning opportunities. If you have not picked up your students packet of 15 tickets to sell, please call our office at (810) 591-6077 or email us at pgenord@gbcs.org. We have five weeks left of this fundraiser and we are hoping all students will sell at least 15 tickets. Cash prizes range from $250 - $1,000. Thank you for your help supporting this important fundraiser!

We have a lot happening in October too! Please scroll through our newsletter for more info.!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Amber Hall, PIC Director

Student Spaceflight Experiment Program

Our 5th - 8th graders are progressing along in learning about microgravity and exploring science experiments that can be carried out on the International Space Station (ISS). During the month of October, they will be collaborating with experts, finalizing their experiment, writing up a research proposal, and preparing for competition during the first week of November. The winning proposal will have their science experiment flown to the ISS next spring for astronauts to carry out the experiment and return the results to Perry Innovation after several weeks. We are very excited to see what our students come up with!

FISH Holiday Basket Program

Please see the links below regarding the FISH of Grand Blanc Holiday Basket Program. There is an informational flyer, an application to receive a holiday basket, and also a sponsorship packet of information in case you or your organization are interested in sponsoring a family this year. The need is great this year and our school will be sponsoring several families as well as participating in a food drive. Look for more information in November!

Medical news

We continue to have a few Covid-19 cases in our school, and throughout the school district. We are following protocols from the Genesee County Health Dept. and are glad that our district testing centers have opened up to help with Covid-19 testing. Our district Covid data dashboard can be found at: https://www.gbcs.org/Page/2960. It is important that our students continue to wear masks and follow all protocols for social distancing in the cafeteria. As always, if you have any questions, please contact Dr. Amber Hall at ahall@gbcs.org or at (810) 591-6077.

With fall here, we are also starting to see other non-Covid illnesses. Our school nurses just shared information regarding Hand, Foot, & Mouth Disease which is starting to be observed in some of our schools. Please see the flyer below for information.

We are HIRING!

Our school district continues to be short-staffed especially in the area of bus drivers and substitute teachers. Your student may have experienced a shortage in their classroom this week where we did not have enough substitute teachers available here at Perry. The need is real! If you are interested in part-time or full-time work and being a part of an amazing school district, please visit https://www.gbcs.org/Page/99 to apply.
