GMS Principal's Corner
January 16, 2022
Dear Galvin Families,
Tomorrow, Monday, January 17, 2022, school will be closed in honor and celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As GMS recognizes and celebrates the life and work of Dr. King, on Thursday during X block students at GMS participated in an activity learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy. Students analyzed and discussed several quotations from Dr. King. Students were challenged to make meaning out of them and examine how they connect to their own lives. It is our hope that students gained an understanding from the lesson why we continue to recognize and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Thank you,

Substitute Teachers
Do you have a college-age child home for winter break? If so, would they be interested in subbing for the Canton Public Schools while they are here? Subbing is a great way to keep busy, make money and get real-world work experience. In Canton, we have had great success bringing our own, former students back to help support our students and schools during this busy time year. If your child is interested, please have them fill out this sub application packet and email it to Kim Eardley (eardleyk@cantonma.org) to get the process started. If they fill it out before they get home, the process can begin asap!
Students in their first year of college are able to sub at the elementary and preschool levels only.
Students in their second year or beyond can sub at all school levels.

Girls Who Code Club
Interested in learning to code, changing the world and making friends along the way? While Girls Who Code club is aimed to support young women, all genders are welcome! Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization aimed to close the gender gap in technology careers. From 2015 to today the number of female coders has been steadily decreasing. Girls Who Code Clubs are aimed for girls to learn computer coding skills, learn about females in the industry and work collaboratively on a coding project to impact our local community in a positive and meaningful way through code. Students will learn to build animations, games, and apps as they work through Scratch, Python, Swift, HTML, CSS and JavaScript through online tutorials and more while connecting with technology companies in our community.
This club is a bit longer than our normal GMS clubs and is offered free for all. The club will meet for approximately 10-12 weeks beginning Wednesday, January 19th. Meetings will be Wednesdays 2:15 to 3:20 pm and a late bus is available.
