Shaw March Community Update
Winter/Spring 2023
Hello Shaw Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful February break and is looking forward to the fast approaching spring. Over the next few months there will be an increased focus on our work towards academic excellence and personal growth for all students. We ask for the continued support of your child's education by staying involved and engaged in their learning. Regular communication with the school can help ensure that your child is on track and getting the support they need.
Finally, we want to remind everyone of the importance of kindness and respect in our interactions with each other. Let us continue to foster a community of compassion and understanding where everyone feels valued and supported.
As always, your input and support is very important to us. Please know our doors are always open to you. Please do not ever hesitate to contact us at any time.
Regards,
Andrew Tuccio & Erica Roark-Wuerthner (Interim Dean of Students)

We celebrated World Read Aloud Day in February and will celebrate Read Across America Week in March. Some of the fun includes another book-in, buddy reading, a bookmark contest, book-themed door decorating, and a load of reading aloud to help grow our readers. Check out some #wooliebooklove highlights.

Mindful March
Shaw will be taking part in Mindful March. During the entire month of March, Shaw students will be participating in a daily mindfulness activity in order to learn how to be more mindful and aware of of what is all around us. The use of personal electronic devices is prohibited in school. Devices that are in school shall be turned off and placed in the student’s locker for the duration of the school day. This applies to all personal electronic devices including but not limited to cell phones and smartwatches. The expectation at Shaw is that students keep their devices turned off and kept in their bag while it is stored in their locker. Students are also not allowed to use such devices on school buses.
Lost & Found
Please remind your child to look through the lost and found for those missing items.
Outdoor Recess
We will continue to have outdoor recess during the winter, weather permitting. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately and with a coat, hat, and gloves to wear for recess.
Choose Love
We are dedicated to providing a welcoming, safe, and equitable school community that is affirming and inclusive. One way we help our students develop their social-emotional learning is through the Choose Love campaign. You can find more information on this brief Choose Love Overview video. They also offer suggestions to bring Choose Love lessons into your home. Click here for more ideas!
Birthday Book Cart
Want to help promote the love of reading for students at Shaw? This year at Shaw we introduced The Birthday Book Cart. Every day after a student has their birthday recognized during morning announcements they get to choose a book they WANT to read and keep from The Birthday Book Cart. The book is then theirs to read as often as they like and share with others. If you would like to support The Birthday Book Cart you can purchase a book from our Amazon Wish List or please feel free to drop off new books or donations to purchase new books at the main office at any time.
