Miss Martinez's Math News
December 8 - December 19
Greetings from Miss Martinez!
This week has certainly flown! I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing break. I have sent home a packet of math practice for students over break. This math practice is not homework and is not mandatory, but is simply for students who would like to practice a bit over break.
Learning Targets
I can name 2D and 3D shapes.
I can use attributes to describe 2D and 3D shapes.
Constructing Shapes
To review our understanding of geometric vocabulary, we constructed multiple 3D shapes and then used the words vertex, face, and edge to describe our shapes. The most popular shape was the dodecahedron because it looked like a soccer ball!
Geometrees
To celebrate the holiday season and integrate graphing and geometry we created geometrees. After decorating their trees students had to graph and analyze their data.
Problem Solving
To end our week we did some problem solving work. Each student was given their own mini mystery and in order to solve the mystery they needed to correctly solve the story problems!
Apps to Try
Math Balloons is a fun app to try over break. I would recommend your second grader using the easy setting as the medium setting uses multiplication and division. It is a fun way to practice quick math fact and has some relaxing music in the background.
