Pfizenmaier Pumpkin Patch
Please send $2.00 for your child to be able to get a small pie pumpkin to bring home.
We will be visiting the Pfizenmaier Pumpkin Patch on October 19. We will be leaving LES at 1:45 to travel by bus to the Pfizenmaier Pumpkin Patch and return by the end of the school day.
Once there, Maureen Pfizenmaier and her sons will present about growing pumpkins, the many varieties grown and we will be able visit one of the actual fields where they grow pumpkins.
Please wear closed toed shoes for this event.
If you DO NOT want your child to attend this event, please email me.

SNACK TIME
I noticed that many of us are hungry about 10:30 (this is after recess) each day. The kids would like a small snack since our lunch time isn't until 11:45. We had conversation and I would like to request your help. Would you be willing to send 19 granola bars or a box/bag of cereal once a month? I would send a reminder at the beginning of the month and the snack could come to school anytime.
We do not have any food allergies in our classroom.

Language Arts
We will be reading the story Tadpole to Frog this week and continuing to research fish.
We will also be learning about antonyms and working with antonyms in our writing.
In our journals, we will be writing about being a part of a team, an animal that turns into something else as it grows, tadpoles and what we learned about frogs.
Our phonics lessons will center around 'e to the end'.
Please continue to practice Leveled Readers.

Math
Our curriculum director, Jaclyn Pfizenmaier has put together a number of resources for parents. Many can be found here.
Occasionally I will include links to articles about math to help us all understand what is changing in the way math is taught.
I really liked the explanation this person offers on this video. The video is about 8 minutes long. http://www.mathplusacademy.com/heres-why-math-is-taught-differently-now/
