Women are oppressed by various modern expectations of how they should act and look.
Society and the Media tell girls from an early age how they are supposed to look and act.
The song Stupid Girls by P!nk relates to society and the media telling girls that they are supposed to act a certain way and dress a certain way.

This show Drop Dead Diva is about a gorgeous model who dies crashing into a fruit truck on her way to an audition. When she wakes up in the heaven in the show the heaven secretary presses something on her keyboard that makes the dead model wake up on earth a boring fat women. She freaks out at first and tries to get her body back but then she realizes she is beautiful and she has to own it.She eventually falls back in love with her fiance from her old life. This is sending a positive message to women about inner beauty, because today's society wants women to be beautiful on the outside, and this is unfair to the women that are "not pretty". This show helps us learn that it is possible for women "without outer beauty" to have a place in this world.

This YouTube video is an example of what girls are taught at a young age. They have sweet little commercials about cooking, cleaning, and taking care of their families. Little girls think that there are boy toys and girl toys and that they can't get mixed.

Organizations That Help Women Gain Equal Rights
NOW is a organization that has been helping women gain equal rights since 1966. They work with many different issues and all across the country.
MADRE is another organization that helps women get the same opportunities as men. This organization works all around the world with many different issues such as reproductive rights and economic equality.

"The future must not belong to those who bully women. It must be shaped by girls who go to school and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons."

This book is about a society were men completely control women. Once they are married a man can do anything to his wife and the government made this rule so they don't help women. At one point the main character's husband makes her eat rocks because the dinner she made did not taste very good. When she tries to run away the police catch her they take her back to her husband.

This short story is about a woman who has just found out that her husband has died. She goes to her room and thinks about how happy she is. Her husband was holding her down and after he died she felt free. She could do whatever she wanted. At the end of the story she hears a knock at the door. When she opens it her husband is standing there. She is so overwhelmed that she dies from heart trouble.
