NOTE FROM MRS. LOGAN
Recently, I have entered a new stage and challenge in parenting. I have been provided the opportunity to teach my teenage daughter how to drive. Those of you who have been through this before know that this is no easy task. I am aware the feedback I provide to her must be timely, specific, calm and contain a perfect balance of recognizing the positive while constructively addressing the negative. I find myself, in the midst of fearing for my own safety, doing a lot of inner self talk to remind myself to stay at my best, even in this stressful parenting scenario. There are moments when I have been successful in my approach and moments were fear and frustration has gotten the best of me.
Yes, teaching a child to drive is new to me. What my daughter needs from me though is really no different then what she needed from me at other milestones, like potty-training or learning to tie her shoes. Being at our parenting best, even during the challenging times, aides to our children's success and supports their journey in reaching up and grabbing their greatness.
