SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM STARTS 6/28
SUMMER READING for all students!
Furnace Brook's summer reading program aims to focus on themes that celebrate learning, hard work, acceptance, perseverance, tolerance, and cultural diversity. Our theme next year is "Differences Make Us Stronger."
Differences means different, and different means we have selected four books instead of one! Since we are offering a choice for our book this summer, we are changing our format. We have selected four books that help students recognize and accept differences---something we are always working on with our middle school students. We have a diverse population in this great town and our student body is a reflection of such.
Since students have a choice, they will need to obtain their own choice or book. The four choice are listed below and in this document (which might be easier to read).
All books are available to be purchased online at retailers such as Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
All of these books also have Kindle ebooks and audio books available.
The FBMS library will also have print and online copies to check out over the summer.
If any student has trouble acquiring a book due to a financial hardship, please fill out this GOOGLE FORM to let us know---we will help you to obtain the book.
Students can read more than one book from this list!
This assignment is for incoming Grade 5 students and next year's Grades 7 and 8 students (student who are going into the 9th grade will received a summer reading assignment from MHS)
We are very excited about the four selections below. Students were presented these selections three weeks ago in school. Please ask your child which one is of most interest!
We have many activities already planned for next year based upon these books. One being our partnership with Hingham Middle School to have a visit by the author of Count Me In, Varsha Bajaj.
