STEAM Certified
Big News! Rocky Branch Elementary School has been designated as only the 10th STEAM-certified school in the entire state of Georgia!
This well-deserved honor is a reflection of RBES’ excellence in STEAM - science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. Curriculum is integrated in the STEAM areas and is driven by exploratory project-based learning and student-centered solutions. Go Rockets Go!

Congratulations to Ms. Julie
One of Ms. Julie's legacies will be the phrase we start with everyday at RBES...."Have a good day and give a good day, the ROCKETS' Way!"
Outdoor Classroom Transformation
We are in need of tree stumps we can use for seating on the turf. If you know of someone who can help, please let us know.
Artsonia
Dear Parents,
We are trying something new in the art room at Rocky Branch! Instead of sending artwork to Square 1 Art, I am uploading 2D art projects that your child creates to their digital portfolio in Artsonia. This online digital art museum is a place where you can view your child's artwork, view other artworks from students in their grade level and at RBES, invite family members and friends to view your child's artwork, and order keepsakes featuring your child's artwork through the giftshop. My hope is that each year, your child will add to their portfolio in Artsonia and be able to see their growth as elementary artists.
Please look for an email from Artsonia where you can either grant permission for your child's artwork to be viewed as part of the project galleries (by clicking the green "give permission" button) or you can also choose to keep your child's artwork private between you and me, their art teacher. I pulled the email addresses straight from Powerschool, so if you don't get one, please email me at sdickson@oconeeschools.org and we will fix the problem.
Finally, I have a project uploaded for every grade level except 1st and 4th grade. Artworks are in the works and will be uploaded when completed.
Thank you for supporting the visual arts at RBES!
Cheers,
Mrs. Stephanie Dickson

Can-a-thon
Our 2020-21 school year has looked very different from years' past. Unfortunately, there are many things that we can not do. With that in mind, we are excited to focus on what we can do! For the next two weeks, Mon, 11/2- Fri, 11/3, RBES will have a wonderful opportunity to participate in one of our time-honored traditions of the Can-a-thon. This annual giving campaign provides us with a real life, hands-on demonstration of how the Rockets' Way can have a positive impact on others. As the holidays approach and the community is recovering from the effects of COVID-19; more than ever, families are experiencing food insecurity. Our Kindness Club will be working to encourage students to bring in cans of food to help support those in need. Last year, RBES collected 2,962 cans. Let's see if we can beat that this year!
We are so thankful for the generosity of our school family! And we look forward to seeing the students' smiling faces as they enjoy taking part in helping others.

No-Cost Meals
Breakfast and Lunch at No Cost
All Oconee County students will now receive breakfast and lunch at no cost through the end of the school year. The original announcement was through December 2020, but no-cost meals have since been extended to the entire school year.
As announced by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, this flexibility is being provided as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. OCS is eligible because the system provided meals at no charge to families from March-July 2020 through the USDA Seamless Summer Program.
For families who qualify for Free and Reduced lunch, it is crucial that the Free and Reduced application form is still filled out. This information impacts benefits including Title I funding, high school testing and summer school assistance, and Secret Santa.
Any balance currently in meal accounts will remain and can still be used on a la carte items. In addition, please note that no-cost meals extend to distance/digital learners as well.
Please contact Rebecca Thorpe with any questions or concerns at rthorpe@oconeeschools.org or 706-769-5130, ext. 2203.
