Nov. 28- Dec. 2 Newsletter
This week our Kindergarten classes enjoyed a field trip to Hunsader Farm. The students loved exploring and learning about farm life. They were able to take a hayride to see crops growing, learn about the animals in the petting zoo, and tour an old- fashioned village. Our second grade students participated in a living museum at the Florida Fairgrounds to learn all about the ways of life for Florida pioneers. Students made candles and rope, washed clothes on the washboard, participated in a one room school house, shopped in the general store and visited the train station. The kindergarten and second grade students had an amazing time learning off campus and represented our school well!
The holiday season is in full swing in the media center with storybook trees being made by classes with many SSYRA (Sunshine State Young Readers Association) titles. We loved the first trees turned in this week and can't wait to see the collection grow in the coming weeks. Students participated in "book tastings" this week to get a sample of the SSYRA titles. Click the link below to learn more about the books and upcoming SLAM book competition.
Reminder that Middle School exams will begin on 12/14 with one exam each day. Exams are a 120-minute block each morning, so please make sure students arrive on time. The exam schedule and study guides will be posted in Canvas next week, so be sure to check Canvas for each subject area's specific exam information.

Admiral on Deck: Mrs. Scallan
Hello Admirals, I am Mrs. Scallan. I teach 2nd grade, math and science. I am so grateful to be a teacher at York! I graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I have taught kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 4th grade, 6th grade math, and 8th grade Language Arts. I must say 2nd grade is my favorite! My husband and I are empty nesters now that our two daughters are adulting. We are loving this new phase of our lives! For fun, I like to shop, read, and travel. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the school year brings!
