Valley High School Update


Academics Welcome back everyone and Happy New Year! Next week is a regular week and most classes are giving final exams. Tuesday and Thursday are both Encore days; please make sure you get signed up for a seminar to help you prepare for finals and to reassess any assessments you need to redo. We are now in the course registration process for the 22-23 school year. Please talk to your student to make sure you know the classes for which they are signing up for next year. In addition, there will be a PTO ZOOM MEETING Thursday, January13th beginning at 12:00 PM. The topic to be discussed is "Planning for post-secondary education". VHS Counselor Eric Traynor will outline how the counseling staff helps prepare students for post-secondary options, and VHS Counselor Larry Mandernach will discuss ACT testing and AP exams vs dual credits. At the end of the meeting, Valley High School and Valley Southwoods Principals Maxwell and Kuhnert will share brief updates. PTO hopes to have you join for the information-packed hour!	Arts There is a Show Choir parent preview Monday, January 10th at 7:30 PM in the Performing Arts Center. We will host an informational trip meeting for Vocal students interested in the Choir trip to England and Scotland for Spring Break 2023 on Sunday, January 23rd at 2:00 PM. Below are important dates for IHSSA students and families: IHSSA Parent/Preview Nite: January 14 District IHSSA Contest: January 22 @ Osceola State IHSSA Contest: February 4/5 @ Valley All State IHSSA Festival: February 18/19 @ ISU	Activities Thank you to the parents who have signed up to assist with the Valley After-Prom Committee, though more parents and volunteers are needed for the 2022 Prom as this is an entirely parent-run event. Traditionally, Junior parents have worked to gather donations, determine a theme, plan the event activities, and supervise the event. Without parent leadership, this event will not take place. Please reach out to Valley Associate Principal Shannon Campbell (campbells@wdmcs) for more information. Chess Club has resumed match play Tuesdays after school in the Media Center. Students who are interested in poetry, prose or artwork are encouraged to submit their work to Ms. Perry (perrye@wdmcs.org) for a chance to be featured in Valley's literary magazine, Ink. Prayer Club meets Friday morning at 7:20 AM in Mrs. Stanfel's room, 1607. Come for breakfast, fellowship and prayer. Join the Greenhouse Club in room 1329 the first and third Wednesdays of each month after school. Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) meets Thursdays 3:30-4:15 in room 3422. Join us for Anime Club every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30 AM in Ms. Stanfel's Room 1607.
