The Week in Review
It's been a few weeks since the last update, but our classes are not coasting into the break.
This past week (Pre Ice-Age) was spent learning about landforms and the role water can play in erosion of those landforms. On Monday, we set up our "stream tables" and created various landforms like plateaus, mountains, canyons, and plains.
On Tuesday we saw the role water can play over time as our plateau was eroded into a canyon and where the river deposited that water downstream, a delta.
Wednesday we took a look from above with Google Earth at the Mississippi River Delta that has been created by the Mississippi River, as well as the Grand Canyon, which has been carved out over many years by the flow of the Colorado River. The students also learned this fun bit of trivia: the Mississippi River delta is expanding by about 300 feet per year!
Thursday we sped up the process when we looked at the effects that floods have on the rate of erosion.
In Social Studies, our students are learning why the colonies got upset with Britain and wanted to seek independence. This was not an immediate shift of thinking, but took place over the course of decades through various events both domestic and abroad.

On Deck: Science
This week we will continue to learn about landforms before moving into a short learning period about energy before the break!
On Deck: Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will finish learning about why the colonies were upset with the British through writing newspaper articles from the time period. We will write a few articles over different events before we move into the Revolutionary War.
A Holiday Surprise
As a class we are collecting money to send home to the custodial staff over the winter break. We are asking for each child to give $1 towards helping to make the holidays of a little easier for our incredible custodial staff. If you want to donate more than the $1 that is fine. Student Council will be picking up our donation envelopes on December 19th, so please have your donations in before then.

AquaUpdate
I know everyone is concerned about the health and safety of the five inhabitants in the Aquarium, and I have good news that all fish are still alive, (presumed) healthy, and eating. The investigation into the near fatal experience that left a member of the Ops Crew without a stomach has been closed as everyone appears to be thriving and minding their own business in the tank.
If there is one place I would rather be than in this ongoing Ice-Apocalypse is in the tank with those fish hanging out in 76 degree waters without a care in the world.
