Forward Together!

Dear Families,

Thank you all for your work in cooperation with the school district as we navigate these trying times and do our very best to keep kids in school!

Based on our local data we are making a change to Level 2 on the school district’s Safe Learning Continuum. Level 2 is not the same as it was last year. Please review details of Level 2 here.

The COVID Response Team engages in a consultation process for decision making:

  • Weekly consultation with county and regional public health officials to review COVID indicators

  • NBAPS COVID Response Team weekly review and evaluation of mitigation strategies and District COVID data

  • Consultation with COVID Advisory Team when a shift of level on the Safe Learning Continuum is being considered

  • Safe Learning Levels adjusted as needed with multiple modes of communication to staff, students, parents, and community members

Please also review our 2021-22 Safe Learning Continuum to see an overview of what to expect at each level.

Each week, I write a column for our local newspapers and updates are provided on the district website right here. Keep an eye there for important news and information on a weekly basis!

Be a Viking Support Star!

We are so thankful to parents and community members that stepped up last year to serve as Viking Support Stars. NBAPS schools continue to need help providing substitutes for a variety of staff positions. You can help in two ways!

  1. Are you, or anyone you know, interested in longer term substitute opportunities? If so, please contact Jody Spofford at 651-674-1008 or

  2. Being part of the solution is the solution! You might be surprised to know how much of a difference it would make if you were able to commit to only 5-10 days over the course of the school year to provide substitute duties. With very little commitment on your part you can make a huge difference for NBAPS!

NBAPS is hosting Viking Support Stars training sessions on Oct. 27. There will be sessions from 8-10 am, 11 am - 1 pm, and 5 -7 pm, at the district office (38705 Grand Ave. North Branch). This is a one-stop opportunity to allow interested parties to sign up, get help with application materials, and receive on-board training. If you are interested and able, please use this form to sign up for a session. A four-year degree is not necessary to be part of the solution to keeping kids in school!

COVID resources

State of Minnesota resources can be accessed here, and Chisago County resources here. The NBAPS Covid Dashboard, available at the district homepage, shows district cases and is updated early each week. Anyone with questions is encouraged to use the school district’s COVID Questions and Input form, also available at the district homepage.

Educational benefits

Though breakfast and lunch continue to be provided to students free of charge for the 2021-22 school year, there are other benefits to applying for free/reduced lunch benefits, such as reduced fees for activities. To learn more, look for the form and instructions along the right side of the Food Service website.
