Chestatee Elementary School

A Letter From Mrs. Tennies, Our Principal

Dear Chestatee Families,

May is a time when we reflect on the amazing things that have happened this year with our students and school. I would personally like to thank all of the wonderful volunteers who have helped to create family friendly fun @ the T! We are grateful for the friendship you have shown us and the partnerships that we have built this year.

When we look at an entire school year, it is thrilling to see the growth our students. They have certainly accomplished a lot. Each child is special to us. Our teachers are so proud of the hard work of the Chestatee children. Most importantly, we are planning for the future!

We wish you a safe and relaxing summer vacation.

Hope to see you this summer in the media center!

Kind Regards,

Polly Tennies

A Few Words from our Parent Involvement Coordinator

A Look Back…. And Ahead

It is hard to believe that this school year has come to end! It has been an incredibly exciting year as your Parent Involvement Coordinator. As I look back, I have 3 highlights from the year.

#1 Meeting Families!

From greeting families each morning to lunch, car line, parent resource room visits, parent trainings, or family nights, I got to meet so many great people. Thank you for coming in to the school to get involved! I look forward to meeting more families next year.

#2 Understand Title I

It wasn’t until I was in this position until I really understood the guidelines that go with Title I. I learned a lot this year and will continue learning as there are so many intricate details. There were many times I felt very appreciative as a staff member because of all of the extra resources (staff, technology, after school and summer programs, materials) Title provides us at Chestatee. However, it is as a mother of a Chestatee student that I feel the most fortunate. My child has smaller classes and many, many more opportunities due to Chestatee being a Title I School. And for that, I feel truly blessed.

#3 The Champs and Grand Champs Volunteer Program

After watching the success and fun of our WatchDog Dads program, we decided that our ladies wanted a little fun. But instead of committing one full day a year like our guys, we had some lady volunteers who were willing to pilot a 30 minute a week program to help first graders with their reading. As a result, we have 18 ladies who come weekly and together help 25 first graders daily to become better readers. In a few short weeks, we are seeing amazing progress. And for next year, we are excited to grow the Champs and Grand Champs (mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, community members) to other grade levels! Let me know if you are interested in joining our group!

Looking Ahead…

We have grade level specific Compacts coming next year. We have two Parent Involvement goals listed in the Compacts.

1. 100% of our families will benefit from Title I by visiting the Parent Resource Room or attending a Parent Learning Session or Family Night.

2. We will offer at least 2 parent learning sessions each month to help you to help your child with school.

I am looking forward to working with you next year! We want you here at Chestatee!
