School Libraries: Heart of the Australian Curriculum

The Sutherland Shire Teacher Librarians' Network is excited to announce that we have secured the world famous Lyn Hay as guest speaker for our Term 1 meeting. It will be a full day presentation and Lyn will be presenting her keynote "Colour outside the lines: Building capacity for inquiry through the Australian Curriculum" as well as two complementary sessions. We will also be holding a trade fair with various book sellers and library suppliers attending.

This day includes the Sydney Region TL Network and will also be open to all other interested educators.

Lyn has twenty years of working as a lecturer in the School of Information Studies and Flexible Learning Institute Fellow at Charles Sturt University where she has trained thousands of teachers, teacher librarians, librarians and information technologists at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Lyn’s research interests include the impact of school libraries on student learning, TLs as evidence-based practitioners, inquiry learning within a Web 2.0 world, iCentres as learning hubs in schools and digital citizenship and information policy issues.

The day will focus on new challenges for TLs in terms of their role in resourcing the new curriculum. It will also highlight a number of ways that TLs can strengthen their teaching role by supporting the consolidation of student inquiry across the curriculum. Lyn will present the Guided Inquiry Design framework as a powerful approach to designing inquiry units and providing students with instructional intervention throughout an inquiry experience, and provide participants with a range of digital tools they can use with teachers and students to support guided inquiry

The cost is $60pp and includes morning tea and lunch.
