PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

Happy November!! The days continue to fly by. As we get into the busyness of the next couple of months, I hope you and your family will be able to pause and find things that you are grateful for! I know, for me, one of my greatest joys is being a part of the Brookdale Community! I am so thankful for our students, their families, and staff! Below are some of the things staff are thankful for.

We'd love to hear from our Brookdale families! What are you thankful for? Click on this link to share - We're Thankful For.

Perhaps start a family gratitude journal or list that you add one thing to each day. Research says that finding areas of gratitude supports stronger mental and physical health!

Last Wednesday, our 4th graders and Student Leaders performed for the rest of the school at our Veteran's Day Assembly. They will be performing for their families Tuesday night! It was a great way for our students to learn a little about Veteran's Day!

To all who served, thank you so much for your service!

Native American Heritage Month

November is Native American Heritage Month, which gives us all the opportunity to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of the Indigenous people of this land.

The Franklin Pierce School District, which is on the traditional lands of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, honors and respects our students and families with Native American heritage. Our Native American Education Program, which provides cultural and educational support to students in every school in our district. The district has approximately 225 students with Native American heritage representing over 45 different tribes in the United States.

THANKSGIVING VACATION

School will be dismissed at 12:35 pm on Wednesday, November 23. Lunches will be served. There will also be no school for all students on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25. We are thankful to work with wonderful students and families at Brookdale Elementary. Have a Happy Thanksgiving holiday.

Weather and Outdoor Recess

We are finally heading into the colder, wetter months of the school year. Please be sure your students come to school dressed for the weather. Wear coats, hats, gloves, socks, shoes that protect their feet, and maybe even a change of clothes in case they get wet. Our health room does not have extra clothes for students who get wet outside.

Looking for Work?

Are you or do you know anyone who is looking for work, our district has many openings at all levels. In order to be hired into a regular Paraeducator position, you must pass the Para test, have an Associate degree, or have 72 qtr college credits or 48 semester credits.

The district is also in need of substitutes. If you aren't able to work every day, this may be just the opportunity for you. Contact the office if you have questions or would like more information.

SUBSTITUTE APPRECIATION IS NEXT WEEK

We would like to thank guest teachers and paras for the challenging and important job they do. When our staff is sick, we have a wonderful group of substitutes that come in and continue the education for your student until they return. We really appreciate their efforts!

IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS

STUDENT EARLY DISMISSAL – If your child has an appointment and is leaving before the end of the school day, please make sure you send a note that morning letting the teacher and the office know. Also, please allow enough time for pick up. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).

SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:15 p.m. After 3:15 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!

UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3100.

PTA vs PTO

We are moving from a PTA format to a PTO. A PTO has fewer restrictions than the PTA. In order to make the transition, we must have a PTA meeting with officers to approve the budget and the move from PTA to PTO. We will be reaching out in the next couple of weeks to set up a meeting a begin the process. It would be great to have this all set as we move into the new building!

Franklin Pierce Community Action Group

The Franklin Pierce Community Action Group meets once a month. The group consists of parents, students, and district staff who are striving to help improve the culture of our schools and district. Please come share your experience with us in the FPSD. Everyone is welcome!
