HPES Update
04/06/2020
Staff,
Yay, we made it through our first week of official online teaching! I hope your first week of remote teaching and learning went well! Change is difficult, and I know you must be exhausted with this new way of teaching, new routines, learning new technology platforms, finding ways to connect with your students and balancing out your home life as well! We are in this together, learning and growing together. Through this unique experience, we will become stronger educators with more tools in our pockets than what we had before we went out for Spring Break!
Good news is, Friday, April 10th is Good Friday, which means it is a staff holiday! :) Please take time to rest, watch TV, relax on your couch, dance in your living room, work out in your backyard, spend time with your family, and just breathe this upcoming 3 day weekend! I miss seeing you, and talking to you on a daily basis.
We are continuing the school closures through May 1 in accordance with orders from Governor Abbott. Our projected return date to school at this moment would be Monday, May 4.
Try your best to stay home, and keep yourself and your family healthy!
Warm Regards,
Lizbeth

Teacher Virtual Conference Hours
Reaching All Students Document:
We know that you are working diligently to make contact with every student and family and we appreciate your efforts. Please continue to reach out to students and parents weekly. We are putting a system in place that will ensure that we are making contact weekly with parents and students. We want to make sure that students continue to be engaged in online learning as the weeks go by. At the end of every week, admisnitrators will reach out to any student that you have been able tot get in touch with.
The Why: We are NOT asking whether work is being completed. We ARE asking if you have had communication (email, class dojo, seasaw, classtag, zoom, google classroom, other) with a student returned in some form or fashion since going remote.
The What: "Reaching All students" is a document that will serve as both documentation and a most importantly a resource to ensure we have connected with all kids.
The When: I am not asking you to fill this out overnight. Please use any downtime over the next week to work on the list. We have staff ready to try and contact any student that you have not been able to get a hold of.
Save it: Save this document in your grade level folder on the HPES Remote Learning Shared Drive
The How: Please make a copy of this document, and rename it with your name. Then type yoru students names and check off if you have made contact. ( see examples). Contact means you have a way to verify they are doing the work, reading your messages, or returned communication.

Student Accomodations:
Please take some time next week to review your students' SpEd & 504 accommodations. We are still awaiting updates on grading procedures. Thus, in the meantime please revisit each of your students' accommodations. If you have any questions on the accommodations, please reach out to our Ms. Hartford, Ms. Stevenson, Ms. Alvarez, Ms. Ceballos, Ms. Vazquez, Mr. Olivas or me. we are happy to help.
still happening... please check your emails for invitations to these virtual meetings.
Go Math (from Yolando Hoard)
To address teacher’s questions regarding how to access the Elementary Go Math resources and how to score student work, I have created a quick video that demonstrates how to access the HMH “Help” pdfs that will walk them step-by- step through how to use the resources and capabilities of the Go Math textbook.
The video link below has been shared with all Elementary Instructional Coaches. Please ensure that it is shared with all math teachers on your campus.

Student Work Packets & OnlineLearning
Parent Packets will be available for pick up at any meal curbside locations. Parents just need to stop by, and provide the students grade level.
PfISD is following the CDC and TEA recommended practices for interactions and paper distribution/collection. Each Monday after the packets are returned at each distribution site the box of collected packets will be placed inside distribution sites until Thursday after 1:00 pm, 72 hours which exceeds recommendation. Packets will then be sorted at a district location and delivered to campus principals to provide to teachers. Gloves can be provided for handle the returned work and teachers who do not want to bring papers home can coordinate with the campus principal to grade the packets on campus. Additionally teachers can request from their students using the packets to return work by taking a photo of the work and sending the photo via MMS. Sending images via MMS typically does not require Internet access, so this may work for a number of families.
If your team is planning on sending a separate lesson to the ones available online, please make sure that you make exceptions for those students who do not have technology and allow them pick up a packet curbside at the meal locations. Parents are also able to print packets at home.
***If you have any students picking up a packet, you will need to pre-record yourself teaching the lesson and send this out to their parents.
***If your students are doing online learning (not packets), please make sure to either Pre-record yourself teaching the lesson and make it available to them , or offer a live lesson. Remember live lessons are not required.
****Please save any pre-recorded lessons in your teams folder so that other members of your team can access, or other grade levels can get ideas.
*** If you are having live zoom lessons, please invite the administrator assigned to you grade level to your meeting. We may not be able to attend, but we will try and pop in when we can.
