Res Weekly Update!
The Way to Stay in Touch with All Things Res: 8/19 - 8/23
Principals Corner
Joy is Prayer, Joy is Strength, Joy is Love, Joy is a Net of love.....
We will explore STREAM programs to begin next year, launch new initiatives in academics and student life, redesign core curriculum, reflect on our teaching practice while continually improving, consider where we want to be (as a school, as a community), begin phase two of our service program, strengthen our assessment practices, launch a new group of students into their future, review our fine and performing arts offerings, consider lab space modifications, and so, so much more. ALL of this is done, collaboratively and in community, so that our students have the most comprehensive formation experience possible.
Do not be afraid, for there is nothing in fear that will achieve our goals. Do not be afraid to be creative, to stretch beyond what you think is possible, to be engaged in a professional development process that can be intimidating, to give 100% everyday, to hold yourself, and our students, accountable, to become your best self. Do not be afraid to ask questions, to wonder, to explore, to reflect, to consider a variety of angles. Do not be afraid to drop the ball, to fall short of expectations, to miss the target, to not understand the target. Do not be afraid to take the JOY of the Gospel into your classrooms, into your hearts, into the interactions you will have with each other and our students.
I am here to support and encourage our students, in every possible manner, to become what our God has destined them to become. That support is also for you; I am here to support and encourage you in your journey to providing our students what they need: instructors and instruction grounded in the Gospel aimed at preparing ordinary girls to become extraordinary women!
Thank you for taking on this challenge. Thank you for trusting. Thank you for all that you will do that will and will not be noticed. Everything matters. Everything is important. As the year unfolds, never hesitate to see me, email me, call me, invite me, into your journey.
Blessed Celine, Pray for Us!

Res U: A platform for academic excellence
The overarching motivation behind the creation of “Res U: A platform for academic excellence” takes its foundation in our need for a common understanding of teaching and learning. A common understanding, among all instructional faculty, that will result in:
a shared knowledge, definition, and examples of instructional excellence
a platform to acquire and then practice new understandings in teaching and learning
a vehicle to prepare all stakeholders for new initiatives
a shared responsibility toward our continuous improvement

Instruction & Technology Updates
Schoology
As we begin a new year, I recommend taking a few moments to read over/view a few Schoology resources on how to setup your Schoology course for success. Our Instructional Tech website has tutorials and articles on how to best utilize and setup Schoology for the new year. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me.
You may recall last year that Schoology & Google partnered up, making it easier for your students to use the Google tools within Schoology. If you would like a reminder on how this feature works, please read the walk-through and explanation on the integration.
SDS
As you get your gradebooks setup, please reference the SDS Hyperdoc Bootcamp Presentation for detailed directions on setting up and using SDS. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Concerning entering grades in SDS. Please use the following codes only:
- 0-L = Will deduct the points the assignment was worth from the student's points earned.
- 0-NC= Will assign zero points to the assignment for non-submission.
- A= Given when a student was absent and can still submit work.
- X = Excused: The student was excused from doing the assignment. The student's average will not be affected. Please be aware since the assignment will not be computed as part of the student's grade, her total in the "Points Possible" column will be less than students who did the assignment.
Access to Presentations
Presentations given over the past week can be found in this folder. Please feel free to reference them as needed.
Res Tech Times
For anyone who is new to Res this year, please take this opportunity to visit The Res Tech Times. The Res Tech Times automatically curates educational content that may (or may not) be of interest to you. For a teacher who may not have the time to search for educational content via social media, blogs, and/or educational journals, this may be an option for you to explore. The site allows you to subscribe and have a daily email sent with new content. By visiting The Res Tech Times, you can quickly find a variety of educational content covering a wide array of mediums and issues.
Curriculum and Academics!
Academics
In these first two weeks, you will begin to get to know your students as they come to understand your course, your expectations, and your hopes for them. Part of this "getting to know you" phase requires intentional awareness. Should you encounter any concerns about a student (i.e. academic preparation, academic abilities, social/emotional), it is imperative that you contact the respective support person (Ms. Bernardin, Dr. Vallone, Student Services) for guidance and support.
Finally, we will use this section to communicate specific tools and information that pertain to student academics in the coming weeks!
Curriculum
We will begin our work with looking at the standards. Building on the work that will be done in our first data-wise session (August 22), on August 29th, we will delve into specific disciplines. For this session you will be directed to a benchmark standard(s) in your discipline. Please make sure to thoroughly read the standard(s) and the standard's sub points (performance indicators) making notes of anything in the standard of which you may be unsure. You will receive an email this week with specific links by department.
During the Res U time on August 29, we will ask you to work in content groups to accomplish three things with the standard(s):
1) Discuss it, and put it in your own words; look at the sub points (performance indicators) as well.
2) Think about how this standard is covered in your department, and if so, where? If it is not covered, where might you add it to your program?
3) Begin the work of mapping your courses on the Curriculum Mapping Template--Starting with the benchmark standard with which you have been working. We're looking forward to working together and taping into your expertise!
