Valley updates for the week of 4/12-4/17
AcademicsTomorrow is an ODD black day. Returning to a pre-COVID building practice, students have two weeks to communicate with their teachers if they need additional time to make up or reassessment an assignment or test. We had an inordinate amount of incompletes at the end of first semester which we can't have at the end of second semester going into summer. Despite vaccinations being more available, masks are still to be worn during school and when on district property. Masks are properly worn covering the nose and mouth. We wanted to inform you of some important testing days coming second semester:

The performance dates are April 30, May 1 and May 2. There is a Prom dress "try-on" event next Wednesday, April 14th from 3:00-5:00 PM at Imani Family Church located at 815 8th St. in West Des Moines. The entrance to the Clothing Closet is located at the back of the church. Hope to see you there! Speaking of Prom 2021: A Night Under the Stars, it's this Saturday at Hy-Vee Hall from 8:00 PM-11:00 PM. Juniors and seniors are able to attend. There are two "shifts" to allow for better social distancing: 8:00-9:20 PM and 9:40-11:00 PM. Students attending were sent a form to sign up for a time slot. Please check your email from last week if you missed it. Masks are required and temperature checks will be administered per Hy-Vee Hall protocols. Non-Valley students must be registered through the Date Request process found on our website. No jeans, shorts, hats, canes, athletic wear, or costumes. It's going to be fantastic!! Dance Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, April 24th, from 6:00-10:00 PM at Valley High School. This year due to COVID, it will take place both inside and outside on Tiger Field. Packets are due Wednesday, March 31st in Student Services!! All payments are virtual; be part of a great cause in supporting the Child's Miracle Network, Stead Family Children's Hospital! Club information There is a new club at Valley! For all students with a green thumb, take a look at the Valley Greenhouse Club! Meet with plant professionals and learn how to grow and take care of plants in the Valley Greenhouse. For more information, contact Nathan Steimel at ns36563@wdmcs.org. FIRST Robotics Competition-Team 6419 ICE has begun the 2021 season. Contact Dean Lange at langed@wdmcs.org for more information.

Young Socialists is here to help VHS students learn about leftist issues and concepts. things like: Communism, Feminism, Anti-racism, LGBTQ+ rights, and more! We wanted to inform you of some important testing days coming second semester:
- Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress testing (ISASP) will take place on April 19, 20 and 22. Online students will come into the building these days as seniors will be absent during testing. We will have a two-hour late start as testing will be from 8:20 AM-10:20 AM. Seniors will arrive at 10:20 AM.
