A Message from the Principal
Northern Elementary School News
Autumn Greetings
Chilly Autumn Greetings!
I hope this message finds your family well. We have had relatively few illnesses spreading around our school this fall. I hope that is a sign of a tamer cold and flu season ahead. Fingers crossed!
The gift of time this weekend, if even just an extra hour, was a welcome respite for our staff following a busy week. We have another busy week ahead as well as we prepare for Family Conference nights and our Book Fair.
Staff will be meeting with families on Tuesday and Wednesday evening and during daytime hours on Thursday. If you have not already signed up for a conference time, please reach out to your child's teacher. Fall conferences are critically important for getting a glimpse of how your child is adjusting to a new grade level and more challenging learning. It is also a time for us to set goals for the current year. Our school uses multiple data points to determine how each child is progressing. We are very proud of the systems of support we have for children who need a boost to reach those rigorous goals we are setting with you. We just did a reading progress check with every student, and our students are making amazing gains!!!
Thank you again to all who attended our Family Reading Night. It really was a great time. Congratulations to Hazel L.'s family and to Malcom O.'s family. Their names were drawn from the box for the $50 VISA cards for participating in our Word Study at Home activities with Mrs. Molde and Mrs. Blumenshein.
November is Native American Heritage Month. We will celebrate and explore the rich contributions and customs of Native American culture throughout the month with a variety of activities.
On Monday, November 13, we will hold a ceremony to honor our veterans. The public is welcome to attend.
Finally, a spirit wear order is being created with a new design/options. We will send an order form home in the next few weeks if you are interested in Northern Elementary logo wear for your child.
I am thankful for such a wonderful group of staff and students to spend time with each day at Northern. Our school is truly a wonderful place to learn and grow.

We encourage each family to be actively involved in their child’s education. Support comes in many ways. Families and caregivers can become active with our parent teacher organization, volunteer in the classroom, or simply designate a special time each night to talk about your child’s day and spend 15 minutes reading together.
