SBAC Testing is Here
Every Spring brings along with it statewide Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) testing. It is an important time for schools throughout the state of California and in Pacific Grove. On Friday, Principal Roggeman will be visiting our third through fifth grade classes, encouraging our students to relax, take their time, and show what they know. Here are some steps you can take to insure that your child is ready for the test.
On Test Day
Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast
Many teachers report that students who do not do well on tests have not gotten enough sleep, and have not eaten breakfast on the morning of the test. Doing both of these things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity (Narang, 2008).
Make sure your child is prepared
Forest Grove will supply the tools your child needs for the test, such as pencils, an eraser, and paper. If your child is absent on a testing day, your student will be given an opportunity to make up the test.
Remain positive
Staying calm will help your child stay calm. If your student gets nervous about the test or is likely to experience anxiety during the test, help your child practice some relaxation techniques to try when taking the test. (Narang, 2008).
Finally, remember that standardized tests and grading systems are not perfect; each format has its own limitations. As you help your children do their best on the tests they take, also remind them that testing is just one part of their education. With your support and involvement, they will be well on her way to her own bright future.

A Message from the Library
While we are talking about the care of our books, we have received many books returned in terrible, wet and moldy condition. Please help your students keep lunches, water bottles and food away from their books. If a book gets wet, please stand it up and fan the pages immediately so it can dry. Thank you for your help in keeping our library clean, healthy and ready to READ!
If you need to contact me, I can be reached at cgruber@pgusd.org.

Falcon Fest Sponsorships!
On May 26, students will celebrate academic success with a fun filled day of activities supported by the Forest Grove PTA. Parents and teachers are already hard at work making plans for another fabulous bash. We are seeking sponsors to help bring fun, age appropriate activities to our school. Many of these activities are very expensive, and this is why we are reaching out to local businesses and/or families who would be interested in a tax deductible sponsorship. Our Tax ID number is 94-6171945. Please consider being a sponsor and help us make this the best event ever!
