Clipper Family Connection
Sturgeon Bay High School Newsletter
From the Principal
Hello SBHS Family and Friends,
We are just completing our first month of school and it has been a great start to the new year! I want to thank all of our students, staff, and families for their support and hard work to make the year so successful.
In this newsletter, you will find a great deal of information about upcoming events, important dates, and celebrations of the work that has been going on. We start with Family/Teacher Conferences coming up this week on Thursday, October 6 from 4:00 – 7:30pm. Again, this year, we will have our families sign up for conferences ahead of time. This will allow you to schedule out your conferences and will hopefully prevent lines from forming and you from waiting for a teacher to be available. Your child's teachers have sent out specific links for each class. Please look it over and sign up for a 10 minute slot with each teacher you would like to meet with. Teachers are using Signup Genius to schedule conferences and you should see the in your email. As always, you are able to reach out to teachers at any time to talk through grades, assignments, or general curriculum questions.
Progress grades will be available for students and families to view in PowerSchool by Tuesday, October 4. Please remember you can always see your child's attendance and grades by logging into PowerSchool at any time.
On Friday, October 14, there is no school for students throughout the district. Teachers will be using the day for in-service activities where we will be working on curriculum and professional development. We hope our students and families are able to enjoy the extra-long weekend!
One last note is that we are now almost halfway through the first quarter of the year. First quarter exams will take place on Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4. We want to encourage our students to be mindful of the grading periods and consistently work hard to ensure a positive outcome.
As always, please reach out with any questions and I hope you have a great start to our wonderful Fall season!
All my best,
Keith Nerby
Principal

SBHS Band News from Mrs. Hintz
Our band students have had an excellent start to the year. They were able to see two professional ensembles perform for them in the first few weeks of school. We traveled to Door Community Auditorium to see the Canadian Brass quintet perform and we had a visit from the Griffon String Quartet.
Students were amazed at the quality of these ensembles and were in awe that these were groups performing right here in our arts rich community. Thank you to Molly Tremper, Connie Stude, Gena Hansen and Lisa Heise for chaperoning to the DCA for Canadian Brass.
Currently we are preparing for our homecoming field show and parade which will take place on Friday October 14th. The band is still in need of several parents to help with the homecoming dinner. Sign up here: HOMECOMING DINNER VOLUNTEER SHEET .
Our first big fundraiser of the year will take place with our fruit sale in November. Delivery will be on Wednesday, December 7th. Our cheesecake fundraiser will return in the fall of 2023. We will also have a bagging date on Wednesday, November 23 at Tadych's from 5-9 p.m. I will need four parents to help and students will be doing 2 hour shifts. Please contact me if you can help or sign up on the spreadsheet.
Band families should mark November 19 and December 19 on their family calendars for the Winter Parade and Winter concert.
