Field Day is MORE than a free day - SKILLS, SKILLS, SKILLS
As we walked around and watched students demonstrate both physical and social emotional skills we were struck with pride. Whether they recognize it or not this day was so much more than fun in the sun (with a little chilly wind). Below is a window into just a few of the skills your children are being exposed to and practicing on a regular basis. These skills are just as important as the skills of literacy, math, science, history and the arts. Let's cross our fingers that we will get plenty of sunshine soon for continued chances to master these skills.
A few examples of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Standards in Physical Education include:
K7.C The student will develop positive self-management and social skills which include sharing space and equipment with others.
1.1H Students will demonstrate key elements in overhand throw, underhand throw and catch.
2.3 B Students will participate in moderate to vigorous physical activities on a daily basis that cause increased heart rate, breathing rate and perspiration.
4.1 E The student will perform sequences that include traveling showing good body control combined with stationary balances on various body parts
Many thanks to each of our volunteers, chaperones and teachers that made this day a huge success!
Staff Spotlight
Howdy, Lobos!
PSA is excited to introduce our 6th grade Math teacher, Mrs. Abby McMullen.
Mrs. McMullen was born and raised in Midland, Texas. This is her sixth year teaching math at the middle school level and third year with us at PSA.
In addition to teaching 6th grade Math, Mrs. McMullen also teaches small-group math intervention classes in order assist students with attaining essential math skills necessary for future mathematic success. What Mrs. McMullen loves about teaching math, is seeing her students grow and discover the many ways to come up with a solution to a problem. “I enjoy hearing my past and present students tell me of personal achievements they are having in their math classes (6th, 7th and 8th graders).”
An educational highlight that Mrs. McMullen is extremely proud of this year, is working closely with the district math coordinator to write math curriculum for the district. On top of Mrs. McMullen’s teaching responsibilities, she is also part of our campus’ organizational health committee and serves as Team Lead for the 6th grade house.
Mrs. McMullen and her husband, Dan, have two wonderful children- Hunter and Kaylee. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as golfing, fishing, kayaking, hiking, running, and many other sports. She is also a huge fan of her local sports teams: the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Dallas Stars.
PSA is proud to have Mrs. McMullen as part of the PSA family!

LPGA Event @ Old American Golf Club
Local residents & businesses often ask us how they can get involved and make a positive difference in our schools. Here's a chance to give back to your community and directly impact kids' lives.
The Little Elm ISD Education Foundation provides grants to teachers and scholarships to graduating seniors thanks to the generosity of local citizens and businesses. The Foundation has been given the incredible opportunity to earn a substantial amount of money that will go directly back to LEISD teachers and students.
We need volunteers to help park cars at the upcoming LPGA Event at the Old American Golf Club on Monday, April 30 through Sunday, May 6. We need anyone age 16+ with a valid driver's license. If you or someone you know can spare some time on those dates it would greatly benefit the Foundation's efforts.
Please feel free to share this information in newsletters or other means to help spread the word. We need a lot of help to make this opportunity a reality. Please contact Dr. Tony Tipton at ttipton@littleelmisd.net, 903-239-3475 (cell) for more information or details.
