Entry Point - White Paper City

Our Entry Point for our IPC unit on 'Buildings' this week was a great success! The children worked together in pairs, small groups and as a whole class to make a city using just white paper, scissors, sticky tape and glue! It really tested their problem solving, design and creative skills as they worked out how to make and stick 3D buildings together. The children showed the personal goal of cooperation, while sharing the materials and working in unity to create their paper city.

Next week we will begin looking at buildings from the past.

Prep Proms

This year we see the launch of our very own Prep Proms. This wonderful musical event will showcase the hard work and talents of the youngest members of our school. Performing alongside their peers they will demonstrate their spectacular singing voices in a series of songs which may tell a familiar story... Class items and solo performances will also be features, with our children bringing their confidence and courage in equal measure.

The events will take place in the ES Hall on Wednesday 18th May:

  • Prep 1: 8.00am
  • Prep 2: 1.00pm

We look forward to seeing you there.

Miss Pamela Main

This week we finished off our personal narrative books. We have been focusing on writing with lower case letters and leaving spaces between our words. Next week we begin our new writer's workshop unit 'How To...' books.

With reading we have been concentrating on the CAFE strategy of 'Know Many Words By Heart'. We have been applying our Magic 100 words to the words we see in other contexts like books and signs. Next week we change our CAFE strategy to Questioning Owl - Ask questions as you read and 'Read good-fit books'.

In Handwriting we learned the letter 'w'. Next week we will learn 'x'.

The children enjoyed games and activities involving addition this week. This has helped them become more familiar with the adding and equal symbols and their meaning, as well as giving them extra practice with their number bonds. They are starting to recall the number bonds with more accuracy and speed and are consolidating the whole, part/part concept. We will continue with addition next week.

You are practising honesty when you...

  • say what you mean and mean what you say
  • make promises you can keep
  • admit your mistakes
  • tell the truth
