Hembree Highlights
Message from Ms. Smith
Hello Hawks!
I hope that your new year is off to a great start and that you have settled back into a familiar routine. Although last week was a bit rocky at our house, this week has been a bit easier. Here at Hembree, we have had a wonderful week full of lots of exciting learning, with a fourth-grade field trip to the Atlanta History Center on Thursday as one of the highlights.
Once a month, we have the opportunity to share all of this fun learning with members from the district who come to observe our amazing teachers. When they were here this week, they were so impressed that I wanted to share their positive feedback.
"I did not want to leave her classroom! The students were so engaged and learning vocabulary using various modalities." - said about Mrs. Taquechel's (ESOL class)
"The phonics instruction looked like a model from LETRS training." -said about Mrs. Wagner's (Kindergarten Class)
"Everything is this class was so hands on and engaging for her students!" -said about Mrs. Leatherman's (ESOL Class)
"This is a gem teacher that you should never let go of!" -said about Mrs. Tooley's (5th Grade Writing Class)
"He is using strategies that we want to see in every math class. So impressive!" -said about Mr. Welch (5th Grade Math)
"This was some of the best modeling we have seen!" -said about Mrs. Iamele (First Grade)
"Such a great team to meet every student's needs!" -said about Mrs. Scoggins and Ms. McKibben (Special Ed Class)
"She capitalizes on every opportunity for a teachable moment!" -said about Mrs. Stevens (Second Grade)
"She was using strategies from LETRS learning to support learning of letters and letter sounds." -said about Ms. Garvin (Kindergarten)
"She has become an expert at implementing Core 95 phonics lessons. Other schools have sent teachers to observe her in action." -said about Mrs. DeLee (Kindergarten)
I wanted to share these things because I often take for granted how amazing our staff is. From our custodians to assistants to front office to administration and of course our teachers, Hembree Springs does amazing things because of the people that show up every day to support students!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

Parents,
Please check your email to find details about work for January 17th. There may also be work in their Friday Folder. If you have any questions, please email your child's teacher.
Carpool Reminders
We encourage you to use carpool to drop off your students. If you prefer to walk them in, you must park in a parking spot and walk them across using the crosswalk. We have had multiple accidents in the parking lot due to parents not parking in a spot. We also need parents to walk their child across the carpool lane using the crosswalk for safety purposes. Please help us keep your child safe!
Report Cards
Report cards are coming home TODAY! Please sign the front cover letter and return in your child's Friday Folder. You may keep the report card at home for your records. Report cards are also visible in Infinite Campus Parent Portal as well. If you still need help getting into your parent portal, please give a call at 470-254-2902 or email Lisa Dossey at dosseyL@fultonschools.org.

From PTA
Attention 5th grade parents!
The end of the year will be here before you know it, and we want to be sure our kiddos’ final semester at Hembree is full of fun, AND that our parents have everything they need to make the transition successful.
This year, the 5th grade graduation committee will also serve as a transition committee, providing information and tools for the trek to middle school. If you would like to participate in some (or all) of these events and meetings, please email Jess Fadden at gafaddens@gmail.com for questions or to volunteer.
Please join us at our first official event on February 8th @ 7:40AM in the media center. Hembree will host Lisa Cowles, the Title I Parent Liaison at Elkins for an informational session regarding the verification process, world language classes and music opportunities for 6th grade.
